Assam Engineering College was established in 1955 is the first Undergraduate Engineering College in the North eastern India. It started with Civil Engineering discipline, and within a few years other departments came into existence. The College is surrounded on two sides by the Historical Deepor Beel (a huge Natural Wetland now declared a Bird Sanctuary by the Government of India) and evergreen hills on the outskirts of Guwahati city, about  13 kms. on the west. The College is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education AICTE. It offers Bachelor courses (BE) in the fields of Electrical engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering, Industrial & Production Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering & Mechanical Engineering. It also offers Masters courses on Computer Application (MCA), Computer Science & Engineering (ME), Civil Engineering (ME), Industrial & Production. Engineering (ME). It also offers Ph. D facility in Soil Mechanics & Hydraulics. All the Courses are affiliated to Gauhati University.

Location - It is located in Jalukbari area of Guwahati city. The College campus is about 9 kms. away from the Guwahati Main Railway Station, 5 kms. from the Inter-State Bus Terminus and 8 kms. from Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport. Click here for Google Map Location.

Facilities

Hostels - Assam Engineering College is a Fully Residential College and all the students are to stay in the campus. However, with due permission of the Principal, a student may stay outside the campus. The College has seven boys' Hostel, one girls' Hostel and one Hostel for the Post-Graduate students. All the Hostels have LAN and Internet facilities. They also have Sports and other Recreational facilities.

College Library - The AEC library is well equipped with more than 1,00,000 books and over 100 National and International Journals and Periodicals. It also provides a congenial reading environment to students.
 
Central Computing Centre - The Computer Centre provides 24X7 uninterrupted Broadband Internet Services for all-round development of students.

Laboratories - Each Department has it's own Laboratories for Experimentation and Research.

Hospital and Medical Facilities - The College runs a fully functional Medical Hospital with basic healthcare facilities with residential doctors and staffs.

Rural Technology Centre - It is a joint venture of the Assam Engineering College and Assam Science Technology and Environment Council (A.S.T.E.C.) for rural upliftment through research and development. Rotary Sal Seed Dryer, Manual Driven Centrifugal pump, Multi - utility garden vehicles are some of the recent projects undertaken by the staff and the students.

Sports and Gymnasium Facilities - The Institution has modern Indoor and Outdoor Games facilities which provide a competitive platform to the students to excel in  different sporting disciplines in resonance with their academic careers. It also has a modern Gymnasium Hall with latest equipments.
 
Bank and Post-Office - The College has a State Bank of India (SBI) branch and an Assam Engineering College Post Office branch.
 
Canteen and Marketing Complex - The Institution runs two College Canteens and a Market Complex.

Training and Placement Cell - The Cell initiated interaction with various organizations and industries to impress upon them and organize Campus Recruitments in AEC. It improves the quality of the students by organizing Short Trainings, Motivational Talks, One-Say-Seminars etc through experts in these fields. It also organises Technical Seminars, Group Discussions, Awareness Programs, Pre-Placement Talks, inviting prominent people to AEC etc.

MDC - Multidisciplinary Centre is a well equipped edifice which aims at establishing cordial relationships with industries of repute. It comprises a host of Seminar and Conference Halls with modern communication aids.

Pyrokinesis - It is the Annual National level Technical cum Cultural Festival. The three day long event showcase the various technical and cultural extravaganza of the College.
