The Creative Hut Institute of Photography located in God’s own Country Kerala, India is an exclusively dedicated school for photography. The institution functions under the nonprofitable organization National Education and Research Foundation. The institute was founded on 11th December 2007 and is well known for its Gurukul way of Education.

Creative Hut institute has affiliation from the Kerala Government Technical Examination.

The Institute offers certified and Professional courses in Photography, Videography, Photo and Video Editing.

History

Creative hut institute of Photography was established in the year 2007 at Ahmedabad, in the state of Gujarat, India by Abin Alex. In 2011, the institute was recognized as an ISO certified Institution. Since 2013 Creative Hut completely adapted the Gurukul way of learning and offered a residential course in Photography and thus became the World’s first Photography Gurukul. In 2015, the company Canon named Creative Hut as their authorized training center.

In 2018, institute got affiliated to KGTE photography course from Kerala Government Technical Examination. Mr. Abin Alex, the director of Creative Hut Institute of Photography is a well-known photographer particularly specialized in portrait, street, macro, wildlife and documentary photography. He has been felicitated with several awards for his contribution in the fields of photography research and education. To name a few are the Limca Book of Records, Asia Book of Records, India Book of Records and Champions book of records. He is also a recipient of the Honorary Doctorate for his vital role in the research and invention of World’s first Photography history calendar, World’s first Photography Board game and World’s biggest and unique photography wheel. He is at present the Chairman of the non-profitable Trust National Education And Research Foundation, CEO of Alextern Education Private Limited, Editor-in-chief of Photo Mentor Magazine and official Canon Photo Mentor, Canon India.

Creative Hut Gurukul

The institute is an educational establishment that follows a traditional Gurukulam way of learning to offer a residential course in Photography. The Indian traditional approach towards learning is being practiced here; where Shiksha or students and Guru or mentors stay at one place to share their knowledge, express and explore their creativity and skills in Photography.

The institute has its own residential facilities within the campus for faculties as well as for both male and female students separately. The institute also provides homely food for all the students, faculties and staffs in the campus.

Creative Hut Institute is the very first residential photography school in India. The Gurukul has its own organic farm, butterfly park, animal husbandry and bird care in the campus. The students, faculties, and staffs work together in taking good care of both the flora and the fauna. The institute is a trademark for an eco-friendly campus. The Gurukul works on the sole purpose of providing skill education to the public. The mission is to mould self-independent individuals especially from the lower sections of the society.

Location

Creative Hut Gurukul is located in a picturesque place called Mattakkara village surrounded by nature. Mattakkara is situated in the district of Kottayam, well known as the ‘Land of Letters’ and the ‘Picture City’. The Institute is located on the banks of a stream regionally known as the “Pannagam Thodu”. Away from the crowded and busy city area, the institute is situated nearly 20kms from Kottayam town and 15Kms from Palai. The nearest airport is the Cochin International airport while the nearest railway station is at Kottayam. Mattakkara is well connected to the nearby towns by a decent system of roads.

Students get a chance to experience the typical Indian village life aloof from the busy city life. The place is a well blend of all the natural components. The 4-acre campus comprising farming, poultry, and water streams makes a perfect workplace for the students. Some of the nearest spots of attractions within the reach of the Creative Hut Institute of Photography are the Aruvikkuzhi waterfalls, Kumarakom, Nattakom, Vagamon, Sabarimala pilgrimage center etc…

Research

The Institute initiates their students for different projects and motivates them to take part in various innovative Research worksin the field of Photography. The Guru and the director of the institute Abin Alex always implements a study structure that is simple and easy to understand.

Hence, to bring out awareness about photography and its future scope, he has abruptly researched and achieved three different inventions. The Institute appreciates its students and faculties as a single unit for the invention of World’s first Photography history calendar in February 2014, World’s biggest and unique photography wheel “Fosgrafo” in September 2014, World’s first and biggest Photography Board game “Fos Paixete” in October 2014. These inventions laid a simple yet innovative method of educating the history of Photography. The Creative Hut Gurukul continues to pave a platform of creative spaces for all the creative minds that seek here.

Initiatives

The Creative Hut Institute of Photography has made a great impact on the common society over the past few years. Several programs are being conducted by the Institute for the promotion and awareness of Photography. One among the best photography school in the country the initiative taken by the board in spreading the awareness about the scope of photography is highly praised.

During the celebration of world photography day on 19th August 2012, Abin Alex the educator and director of the institute shared photography knowledge and his experiences with prisoners at Sabarmati Central Jail, Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The institute has arranged a one month free workshops for jail inmates where he gave them training lessons in photography.

Photography awareness among children is done frequently by conducting free photography workshops for school going kids, colleges and other educational firms.

The institute took a great initiative in launching a photography publication under the title ‘Photomentor’. Available both in electronic and print media the journal covers almost all aspects in the field of photography.

Admission

The Creative Hut institute offers both professional and certified course in Photography including specializations in Wildlife Photography, Macro Photography, Wedding and Fashion Photography, Product and Studio Photography, Photojournalism, Architecture Photography, Travel, and Landscape Photography, DSLR cinematography, photo, and video editing, lighting and many more.

Application for the course program is made directly with the institute. The admissions are made on the basis of a personal interview with the candidate that may be face to face or over the telephone.
