Introduction

Gemology is a branch of science which deals with gems of beauty and rarity. Diploma in Gemology is a certified course which provides students with the opportunity to learn more about these precious gems. This course in Gemology imparts the necessary knowledge of precious and semi-precious stones, their character and granding with the incorporation of the innovative concepts which help the students to transform their creativity into a reality. The course infuses the ancient craft of jewel designing with an enhanced contemporary vision with the help of computer technology.

Semester – I

• Basic qualities of a gem, methods employed in mining of gems, Physical properties, Optical properties & optical effects in gemstones etc.
• Theory of gem cutting techniques, crystallography & applications in Gemology
• Instruments in gem identification techniques, limitation & precautions
• Synthetic, composites, imitation gemstones & plastics, treatment of gemstones
• Synthetic identification of gemstone groups, Individual stones & their stimulants
