Footwear Design and Development Institute commonly known, as “FDDI” is the leading Institute in India for Infrastructure Development for the footwear industry and Human Resource Development. FDDI is a society registered under the societies Act, 1860, sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce, Govt. of India. FDDI was set up with an objective to train the professional manpower for the industry. In just a span of two decades FDDI has evolved from being India's premier institute to a notable international training Institute. The institute conducts wide range of long term and short term programmes in the area of Retail Management, Fashion, Footwear Design, Technology, Management, Fashion Merchandising, Marketing, Creative Designing & CAD/CAM, Leather Goods & Accessories Design etc.
The syllabi, training software and teaching materials of FDDI are prepared by the experts from Melbourne College of Textile, Australia & Southfield College, UK and syllabus for management programme is designed by senior professors of IIM, Ahmedabad and FMS, New Delhi. FDDI has sprawling modern structure with excellent facilities, highly qualified and trained staff, visiting faculty including top professionals from industry and every other resource required for making the institute number one in the world.
Courses of Study - The institute conducts wide range of long term and short term programmes in the area of Retail Management, Fashion, Footwear Design, Technology, Management, Fashion Merchandising, Marketing, Creative Designing & CAD/CAM, Leather Goods & Accessories Design etc. The long-term programmes are of two to three years duration while short-term programmes are of one-year duration. All programmes offered by the institute meets the international standards.

Facilities
Distance Learning - To facilitate the working professionals of the Industry & to extend the benefit of formal training programmes to far off places, FDDI has tied up with IGNOU for offering professional programmes through Distance learning mode.Workers in unorganized sector is mostly of backward community and the rural populace. To educate these workers is a real challenge. FDDI has started distant learning programme for the benefit of workers in collaboration with IGNOU who is already in the process of distance learning programme. Open learning & distance education by IGNOU has taken a giant step. Gyan Darshan and Gyan Vani on T.V. Educational channel and on F.M. radio have made mark in the education in the country.
The major part of theoretical training will be given through correspondence / T.V. channel / F.M. radio / computer Email. The practical training will be arranged by FDDI at different clusters located all over India. Under this proposal, workers working in different industry across the country will be given training and exposure and will be awarded diploma after evaluation of up-gradation. The courses – CUTTING, CLOSING, LASTING & FINISHING have allready been launched on July, 2006

FDDI Library - The institute provides adequate library facility for the students. The library includes the reading hall, which has a seating capacity of approximately 200 people and has an atmosphere of calm so that the students can concentrate on their work. FDDI's Library brings you an exhaustive and unparalleled resource and information base specific to the Fashion, Design, Technology, Retail and related industry.
The Library has excellent collection of Encyclopedias, Latest Journals, Magazines, Newspapers & other standard reading materials. It also has a wide collection of project reports and case studies; moreover it houses more than 3000 books and periodicals.
Placements - The Institute has an impeccable track record of 100% placement for all its pass outs in major Multinational and Indian companies. FDDI alumni include VP's and CEO's of some of the renowned companies. FDDI students have been able to get global placement in countries like USA, UK, Germany, Hong Kong, Egypt, China, Singapore, UK, Middle East, Sri Lanka, Kenya etc.
Computer Center- The Computer Center of FDDI is primarily the hub for all IT activities. The center not only manages the facilities of the students lab but also fulfills the entire spectrum of IT requirements of the institution. The center hosts FDDI's mail server and other primary IT facilities. The students have a separate domain, independent from other FDDI network to work with. The domain also provides secure storage network drives for the students. The Computer Lab for students hosts a good quantity of computer systems that are latest by technology providing a healthy working environment. Over and above the center is open for extensive hours.
The Computer Centre is served by a dedicated 1 mbps RF link provided by one of the largest Internet Service Provider in the world. Additionally, a 512 kbps DSL line exclusively serves the Computer Centre. It is of notable importance to the students as they can access innumerable informative and educational sites from within the premises.
Internet connectivity - FDDI also provide its students and faculty with Wi-Fi Internet connectivity. The entire campus is wireless and offering all-round Wi-Fi Internet access to students and faculty. The Wi-Fi network provides network and Internet connectivity in every nook and corner of the campus that includes even the canteen and open theater, garden and the lawns.
ITC - The International Testing Center is a state-of-the-art facility established under German collaboration with the PFI Germany and with Bally, Switzerland. The center specializes in testing of leather products, footwear, footwear components, textile products & miscellaneous articles made up of plastics. In fact, it is the first facility of its own kind in whole of Asia to receive the coveted international accreditation from the German Accreditation Council (DAR) for ISO 17025 quality system.
Sponsorship - In each long term programme 16.6% seats are reserved for industry-sponsored candidates if they meet the required eligibility criteria. These applicants will have to undergo through the interview process, and the selection will be done on merit basis. Industry sponsoring such candidates will be required to pay tuition fee as twice the amount of tuition fee applicable in case of non-sponsored (regular) students.The other charges are applicable as in the case of regular students. FDDI will not be responsible for Industry internship & placement for such candidates. The sponsoring company will have to make arrangements for the same.
Foreign Applicants - The admission in FDDI programmes is open to overseas / NRI candidates. 5% seats are reserved for such candidates. The admission is on first-come first serve basis if they meet the required eligibility criteria as applicable to Indian students. In case of non-availability of Overseas / NRI students the seats reserved for them would be offered to industry sponsored candidates, Non-sponsored candidates in priority.
