The Academy of Scientific & Innovative Research (AcSIR) was established by an Act of Parliament, the Academy of Scientific Innovative Research Act, 2011 vide The Gazette of India No.15 dated February 7, 2012 and notified on April 3, 2012. AcSIR has adopted the mandate to create and train some of the best of tomorrow’s S&T leaders through a combination of innovative and novel curricula, pedagogy and evaluation.

AcSIR has been established as an ‘Institution of National Importance’ with a view to maximize the number of qualified researchers and professionals of impeccable quality in the domain of science & engineering; and to equip them with the skills to innovate and conduct seamless interdisciplinary research.

Highly skilled S&T personnel of CSIR who are on the faculty of AcSIR are adequately trained to face the challenges of inter-disciplinary and trans-disciplinary transformation of the biological and engineering sciences which will command the workspace of tomorrow.

AcSIR is a world class research academy functioning within 37 national laboratories, 6 units and 39 extension centers of Council of Scientific & Industrial Research that have state-of-the art infrastructural facilities. AcSIR has been established with an aim of substantially increasing the number of researchers in integrative and interdisciplinary areas of science and engineering. The primary focus is on research and imparting instructions in areas not ordinarily taught in regular academic universities in India by disseminating advanced knowledge in science & technology and by providing teaching and research facilities in frontline branches of learning and also in emerging areas. This is expected to provide excellent opportunities to students to have the best growth path in the profession they select.
