Gulati Institute of Finance and Taxation, earlier known as Centre for Taxation Studies is an Autonomous Research Institute, established in 1992 by the Government of Kerala. It was registered under the Travancore-Cochin-Literary Scientific and Charitable Societies Act, 1955. It was renamed as GIFT when it was upgraded by the Government of Kerala and was done in honour of Professor I.S. Gulati. I.S. Gulati was an eminent economist of India who made significant contributions in the areas of centre–state financial relations, taxation, migration-related issues and international trade. The Institute is engaged in research, training and consultancy. With a strong economic base and core competence in the areas of federal finance and taxation it provides inputs in policy-making of the State Government and the Union Government. Its campus is located at Sreekariyam, Thiruvananthapuram with more than 1.2 lakh sq.feet area sprawling across four and a half acres in the heart of the capital city.
