Vanita Vishram, Surat, 108 years old registered charitable trust has created a dedicated unit “Vanita Vishram Institute for Empowerment of Women” (VIEW) that provides required training and opportunities to needy women for making them employable besides educating more than 10,000 girl students from pre-primary to graduation level in the campus.

The various vocational training activities provided at VIEW are as follows:-

• Garment making-Tailoring (Basic & Advance Course)
• Certificate course in Fashion Designing
• Pre School Teachers Training Course
• Nursing Aid
• Geriatric Assistant (Elderly care)
• Basic & advance course of beauty palour
• Mehndi Classes etc…

These courses are started with an objective of providing learning platform to students deprived of higher education due to unfavorable social & financial circumstances. Some of these courses are recognized by National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) & all these courses are supported with campus placements. Recently we got affiliated under Integrated Skill Development Scheme of Ministry of Textile, Govt of India Till now more than 650 women have taken advantage of these course trainings & have become self sufficient with their financial requirement.

As a part of “Vanita Vishram Institute for Empowerment of Women” (VIEW), we are also running a “Sangeet Vidhalaya” in which training for Classical Music (Vocal & instrumental) & western Music (Guitar, Karoake) etc is provided. This year onwards, we have started with “uniform stitching” department & have engaged few women with very poor financial background but gifted with real expertise of stitching. Similarly we have initiated “Applique Designing & Stitching” department to promote handicraft items & to generate employment opportunities for the needy with an art of handicraft.

Nasta preparation is also undertaken at VIEW however we do not resort to open marketing of these nutritious dry snacks as it would incur additional marketing cost and vendor commissions. At present a retail sell point is operative at Vanita Vishram, Main gate, Athwagate side.

Widow counseling is done at VIEW free of cost. We have helped more than 45 widows till now in getting registered with `Vidhava Sahay Yogana’ & now they are receiving their pension on regular basis. Last year we got registered as a center for `Vidhava Purna Sathapan Yogana’ & trained 50 widows for garment stitching. These ladies got free of cost sewing machine & are self employed & self reliant at present.

Thus, We look forward to contributing for improving the livelihood & augmenting the self respect of women in the society at large.
