Bengaluru, the Silicon Valley of India, home to an ever-growing list of MNCs and BPOs, has witnessed a staggering growth in terms of advancements made in areas of Information Technology, Trade and commerce, Hospitality and Tourism Industry.
This spiralling growth has triggered the entry of many foreign companies, which has made communication in Foreign Languages an integral part of a professional career.
Since its inception in 1985, the Centre for Global Languages, Bengaluru Central University, formerly known as the Department of Foreign Languages, Bangalore University, has tirelessly worked to transform the lives of many students who aspire to think ‘Global’. In its march, towards this goal, the Centre for Global Languages, Bengaluru Central University, offers, today 11 Foreign Languages and has plans to offer few more language courses in the years to come.
The centre has initiated and developed many courses at the UG and PG levels.
It has developed a method specifically designed for the students studying French in the Hotel Management Institutes in association with subject experts from France and the assistance of the French Embassy in India. It has also developed the syllabi for French, German, and Japanese which are introduced in Tourism Administration and International Business courses. The centre is a pioneer by introducing French and German Pedagogy in the BEd courses, offered in affiliated BEd colleges.
The research wing of the Centre has been greatly instrumental in translating historical records and publishing them. It also offers consultancy and curriculum design, projects in intercultural contexts and translations.
The centre also designs and conducts weekend courses in languages depending on the requirements of Industry as a part of its Industry-Institute Interface.

Short Term Courses
The Centre for Global Languages offers different levels in Foreign Languages starting from the Basic Introductory course to the Advanced levels.
The CERTIFICATE level is the Basic beginner’s level.
It includes 2 levels, the Certificate-I (A1) and Certificate- II (A2) of 4 months duration each, with batches beginning in January and July of every year.
This level is offered in French, German, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Portuguese, Italian, Finnish, Russian and Arabic.
The course will be offered only if there are a minimum number of 10 students. The maximum intake for each language is 40 students in each class, with admissions on a first come first serve basis.
The DIPLOMA level is the Intermediate level.
It includes 2 levels, the Diploma - I (B1.1) and Diploma - II (B1.2) of 4 months duration each, with batches beginning in January and July of every year.
This level is offered in French, German, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Portuguese, Italian, Finnish, Russian and Arabic.
The course will be offered only if there are a minimum number of 10 students. Students who have successfully completed the 2 levels of the Certificate course are eligible to register for this course, with admissions on a first come first serve basis.
The HIGHER DIPLOMA (B2) is an 8-month course with batches beginning in July of every year.
This level is offered in French, German, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Portuguese, Italian, Finnish, Russian and Arabic.
The course will be offered only if there are a minimum number of 8 students. Students who have successfully completed the Certificate and Diploma levels of the language are eligible to register for this course with admissions on a first come first serve basis.
The ADVANCE DIPLOMA (C1) is an 8-month course with batches beginning in July of every year.
This level is offered in French, German, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Portuguese, Italian, Finnish, Russian and Arabic.
The course will be offered only if there are a minimum number of 8 students. Students who have successfully completed the Certificate, Diploma and Higher Diploma levels of the language are eligible to register for this course with admissions on a first come first serve basis.
Conversation Classes
Conversation classes or Spoken classes will be offered in the following existing languages French, German, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, and Korean along with Polish, Hebrew, Dutch and Thai.
It is a 2-month course (40 hrs) with 4 batches scheduled every year.
The course will be offered only if there are a minimum number of 15 with admissions on a first come first serve basis.
Minimum Eligibility is II PUC or 10+2 passed.
