About Jindal School of Journalism and Communication

Jindal School of Journalism and Communication - JSJC is envisioned as a world-class institution that offers opportunities for education, research, and capacity building in media and communication studies. Our graduates will become communication professionals equipped with critical thinking and leadership skills rooted in a global, interdisciplinary perspective. The real-world focus and interdisciplinary nature of the program prepare students for a variety of endeavors, with the opportunity to participate in a rigorous internship program from the very first semester. Over the first two years’ students train in the foundational areas of journalism and communication studies through core courses and electives from both the JSJC and other schools at JGU. Students also complete internships during each semester break. In the final year, students will write a thesis as an area for concentrated study. In other words, the final year thesis for the B.A. (Hons.) is a detailed work of substantial length and depth over a specialized subject, duly approved and advised by JSJC faculty.

The core course, Journalism Skills I, II, III and IV, covers the basics of journalism applicable to all media: how to do research; how to write a lead and structure a story. The program is aimed at encouraging students to think beyond the deadline and to give them practice in reporting, writing and producing. The faculty constantly reviews and refines the academic program responding to the ever-changing demands of the world of news and communication.

Scholarships

A scholarship program is one of the most common ways to give financial assistance to underprivileged members of the community, who have great potential to thrive in academics. Our scholarship policies ensure that such students must not be left behind because of financial constraints.

We currently have nine categories in total under which the scholarships are granted: Savitri Jindal Studentship, Award Merit Scholarship, Shallu Jindal Outstanding Women Scholarship, Mrinaldeep Singh Scholarship, Savitri Jindal Merit cum Fellowship, Naveen Jindal Young Global Scholarship, O. P. Jindal Outstanding Merit Scholarship, Haryana Domicile Fee Concession and Chancellor’s Discretionary Fee Concession.

Every year, Merit cum Means Scholarship applications are invited from students and reviewed by the scholarship committee during a series of frequent meetings. Rules and regulations are drafted/amended every year as required. The criterion taken into consideration is merit (CGPA) and means (family income). Many other factors also play an important role like participation in debates, sports, cultural activities, societies’ events, etc., contribution to university and research. The review is done in such a way that maximum students get benefitted.
