Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board has been conducting many examinations for a number of years. As the number of students grew and number of examinations increased, the Government felt the necessity of having two separate directorates. Hence two directorates one for S.S.L.C. and one for all other examinations came into existence from December 1997.

The Directorate conducts 13 main examinations or 57 subsidiary examinations throughout the year.
