The Tamil Nadu Board of Higher Secondary Education was established in the year 1982. It functions under the Tamil Nadu State Board of School Examination. It's headquarter is in Chennai. It evaluates students' progress by conducting two board examinations. Various state schools, both Governemnt and Private Schools are affiliated to Tamil Nadu Board of Higher Secondary Education. At the higher secondary level i.e classes 11 and 12, there is single unified stream leading to the award of the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC). The scores from the class 12 board examinations are used by universities to determine eligibility and as a cut-off for admissions into their programmes.
