The neurosurgery department of AIIMS has reached out to students from more than 20 public and private schools to spread awareness about brain-related disorders, such as epilepsy, tumour, Parkinson's, etc., and also their early warning signs.
A senior neurosurgeon at AIIMS said that educating school children is the best way of spreading awareness on any topic. He also added that due to lack of awareness about these brain diseases, by the time most people reach a hospital, it's already late.
Incidentally, more than 50% of the affected people belong to the productive age between 18-45 years, and in most cases the patients are sole livelihood earners of their families.
Brain awareness week is an international campaign that allows people interested in spreading public awareness and in knowing about progress made in the field of brain research, to share a platform, the doctor added further.
