5.6 Lakh appears in IIT-JEE 2012 on Sunday

The most coveted IIT Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) 2012  held on Sunday, 8th April, 2012. This year more than 5.6 lakh aspirants took the test compared to 4.6 lakh who took the exam IIt JEE 2011 last time.

The exam was conducted at 1,067 centres across the country for admission to nearly 9,600 undergraduate seats in 15 IITs, IT-BHU and ISM Dhanbad. IIT Delhi is the organizing institute of JEE 2012 which is probably going to be the last exam in this pattern.

The HRD ministry is planning to introduce a national common examination for admission to all central-level engineering institutes like IITs from next year. School board exam performance may also be considered for admission from 2013 onwards.

JEE is held in two parts with three papers each - chemistry, mathematics and physics. The first Part will start at 9am and will go on till 12 noon, while the second Part will begin at 2pm and will continues till 5pm and the test will be held on an optical reader sheet.

For the first time candidates will be able to take home a duplicate copy of their answer scripts after the exam. The results are scheduled to be declared on May 18. Out of 4, 68,240 candidates who appeared last year, only 13,602 had qualified for admission.
