The last date to apply for recognition to new BEd colleges and raise the number of seats in the college lapsed on Monday. Lifting the ban on giving recognition to new colleges or increasing intake capacity at the colleges the National Council for Teachers Education (NCTE) has called for applications. The NCTE which will conduct pre-recognition inspections and once they satisfied with the available infrastructure, NCTE will give recognition to the college.
In a significant move, the state government directed NCTE to lift ban on giving recognition to the colleges. Three years back, NCTE had stopped giving recognition to new colleges or to increase the intake capacity to check the mushrooming of B.Ed colleges in the state.
Mushrooming sporadic growth of BEd colleges has led to decline in the quality of education. The ban on opening new colleges has come as a respite for BEd aspirants as teachers passing out from these BEd colleges flooded in the state did not get good jobs.
