Legislative council on Monday gave its nod to the bill which facilitated bifurcation of existing Bangalore University and establishing the new university from colleges and institutes which get bifurcated from the former.
Moving the bill called Karnataka Universities notification (amended) 2013, the minister for higher education C T Ravi said number of colleges affiliated to Bangalore university has increased manifold and institute is overloaded with the work. Establishment of new university will reduce the work burden, he pointed out, adding that there are more than 300 colleges affiliated to existing one and these colleges will be shared between the two.
Replying to members concern over government's exercise to divide colleges, minister said a provision has been made in the bill which will help the government to include or exclude or amend any of its rules by direct notification process and there is no need for a new bill or amendment process . " We have divided the colleges between two universities on geographical basis and care has been taken to qualitatively balance the number of colleges and institutes" he said.
