Karnataka Government approves three more private universities in the state

Legislative council of Karnataka approved the establishment of three private universities in the state . These Universities will be started by C M R Janaradhana trust , Baldwin Education Society and Presidency education society .

Baldwin university has only one constituent degree college to administer . Though the three bills of respective universities were passed by voice vote, ruling BJP member Vijay Shanker strongly opposed the government's move to allow mushrooming of private universities. Krishna Bhat another BJP member also spoke against the move. However the minister C T Ravi clarified that mechanism is in place to strictly monitor the affairs of these universities and they have been given five years time to establish more colleges and institutes. " If these universities fail to abide by the norms, permission to them will be withdrawn" he said defending government's action as America and Australia have large number of universities in proportionate to the population.
