Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University is likely to introduce 40 new courses including MA, MSc, MPhil, PhD, M.Tech and PG diploma from the 2013-14 academic sessions. The decision was taken in the academic council meeting held under the chairmanship of university's vice-chancellor Prof RC Sobti on Tuesday. Out of this, five masters and one M.Tech has been given green signal by the council.
The courses have already got the green signal for upcoming academic session are M.Sc in industrial microbiology, M.Sc in food microbiology and toxicology, M.Sc in nanoscience and nanotechnology, Masters in Hindi, Masters in education and M.Tech in energy and environment.
Besides, the university has also proposed two new schools, namely, School for Visual Arts and School for Education. At present, there are eight schools with a total of 22 departments running in the university. In order to meet the industry requirements, the university will also begin MBA in marketing management and MA/MSc in fashion technology. Also, one year LLM and five-year integrated BA-LLB is on cards. The V-C in his earlier meetings emphasised on introducing courses, which generate employment.
The council also decided to give fee concession upto 50% to single girl child, and meritorious students belonging to SC/ST category and others who hail from below poverty line (BPL) families
The meeting also decided to allow final year PG students to appear in the PhD entrance test, thus benefitting thousands of students. The university also agreed to provide course work to PhD degree holders, but only if they want to. However, pursuing course for PhD degree holders has not been made compulsory.
