1% quota for single girl child in Punjab technical institutes

Punjab technical education minister Anil Joshi on Wednesday announced that 1% quota would be reserved for single girl child and victims of Aids and cancer for admission in the government technical educational institutes in the state.

Joshi was addressing a function at Chandigarh Polytechnic College, Gharuan (Mohali) which in association with Punjab State Board of Technical Education and Industrial Training announced "Super Achievers Scholarship" for the JET-2013 toppers.

Launching the "Super Achievers Scholarship" program, Joshi said that 100% fee would be waived off for the JET-2013 toppers under this scholarship. Calling upon the other educational institutions to come forward to support the meritorious students, the minister said that Punjab government was fully committed to support talented youth opting for Technical Education. Under the scholarship program, Chandigarh Polytechnic College would invite online applications from the students who have appeared in JET-2013.

Joshi said that financial assistance would be provided to Schedule Caste students whose parent's annual income was less than Rs 2 lakhs.
