AMU impart introduced Semester system for UG (Hons)

Aligarh Muslim University decided to implement a semester system for honours undergraduate courses from current academic semester.

Pervez Mustajab, the controller of the university, confirmed on involving this new semester system and said that the annual examination pattern is revealed. From this current session the academic year will be separated in two terms, at the end of every term semester examination will be conducted. A revision of the curriculum is ongoing, with this exercise..

Further, the inclusion of the semester system, enhanced the number of passing paper from four to six that consist three English papers (earlier only one paper is necessary), one Hindi paper, MIL or Urdu, one theology paper or civilization history and one paper of social responsibility or disaster management or other mandatory subject recommended by UGC (University Grants Commission).

All papers will contain 100 marks. Earlier, no marks uniformity was there for various subjects and the weightage vary from 100 to 50 marks on the basis of subject type. The English as compulsory subject contains 75 marks whereas Modern European Languages (MIl) or Hindi/Urdu contains of 50 marks. Total marks of the UG honors program will be 2700 marks (15*100 + 12*100) however the decision regarding including the other six compulsory subjects is yet to come.

The Banaras Hindu University (BHU) at Uttar Pradesh introduced this semester system from the academic session 2012-13.
