Gujarat Technological University has decided not to conduct separate examinations for the four subjects of the bridge course. Instead, there will be one question of 14 marks in the main paper of Semester I examination.
The bridge course was made compulsory from the first semester of the engineering course this year. The course is expected to give students a deeper understanding of mathematics, elements of engineering, physics/chemistry, English, information and communication technology (ICT), life skills, and state cadet corps (SCC).
The new academic year of GTU bachelor of engineering (B.E.) started from Monday. First-year students of B.E. studied the 6-week Bridge Course during July and August 2013.
According to GTU norms, each student has to appear in exams of 9 subjects - four of bridge course and five of first-semester engineering. The bridge course was introduced earlier this year, but only recently did GTU officials make it compulsory for engineering courses. Following this, each student was expected to pass in four subjects of the bridge course and also at least one from the remaining five of the first semester course. This had caused much anxiety among students who felt they were burdened with an impossible task.
