After studying the success and failure of films, students of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) will now learn strategies behind shows on television.

After the success of course on 'Contemporary film industry: A business perspective', IIM-A is starting a course on the television industry. IIM-A has seen a 200% jump in students opting for the course on the film industry since its introduction in 2008. It will give them an insight into the functioning of the industry, which has thousands of programmes under production in almost 14 languages.

The elective course on television will cover the economics, production and marketing of television content in the broadcast business.

Once approved by the academic committee at IIM-A, the elective course will be offered to second year students of the institute's flagship Post Graduate Programme in Management.

With 160 million TV households in the country, the television industry is the most flourishing in the field of entertainment. Today, the Indian TV industry, estimated at $5 billion, runs neck to neck  to the big screen.
