Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board ( GSEB) is thinking for a 20% fee hike for SSC and HSC students for the upcoming board examinations. The hike has been proposed in the agenda of the examination committee meeting scheduled for September 26.
The board will get an additional Rs 10 crore every year if the committee accepts the 20% .
Sources said the board hasn't revised the examination fees for SSC and HSC students since 2006. The board is bearing the higher expenses from all corners - stationary, transportation and other logistics - to conduct the examinations.
Sources further said that the board had last year increased the fees - Rs 6 from Rs 3 per answer paper - for teachers who assess papers. These are the reasons the education board cites for the proposed hike in exam fees.
At present GSHSEB takes Rs 220 per SSC student, Rs 320 for HSC general stream and Rs 250 each per semester per student for HSC science stream. The board charges Rs 280 per semester per student in Standard 11 science stream.
