Indian maritime varsity opens centre at Karaikal

Minister of shipping G K Vasan inaugurated the campus of the Indian Maritime University at Karaikal on Tuesday. This is the seventh campus of the central university after those in Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata, Visakhapatnam, Kochi and Kandla.

Addressing the gathering after the inauguration, Vasan said the university would earmark 50% of the seats for students of the Union territory of Puducherry. The university will offer short-term courses in port and marine studies and degree courses in nautical science, marine engineering, naval architecture and ocean engineering, ship building and repair.
