Midnapore College in Kolkata Received Autonomous Status by UGC & State Government

The Midnapore College in Kolkata received an autonomous status by University Grants Commission (UGC). Midnapore College is the fourth aided college in the state to get  this status after St Xavier's College, Ramkrishna Mission Narendrapur and RKM Belur.

After getting the autonomy granted, the Midnapore College has now liberty from any bindings that affiliated colleges have over them.

2014-2015 onwards session of the college will have the permission to create its own curriculum besides having permission to conduct examinations on their own and also the publishing of the results independently. The intrusion of Vidyasagar University will only be limited to the approval for publishing of mark-sheets by the college, told the official.

Before awarding autonomous status, the UGC conducted inspection in advance followed by sending approval to the state government on 27 January.

The Midnapore College will now run as an autonomous body.
