The Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Vasundhara Raje announced on 18 February that an education board for Class VIII is to be set up for the state, who will conduct an optional board examination for Class VIII students across all the government schools in the state.

The aim of introducing optional board exam is to raise the standard of education as well as students to incorporate competitive instinct.

Due to the directives of RTE (Right to Education), no exams are conducted for students of up to Class VIII, which has brought down the standard of education.
