Himachal got 3rd Government Medical College in Mandi

Union Minister for Labour and Employment, Oscar Fernandes has inaugurated recently an Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Medical College in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh,  3rd government medical colleges in the state now.

During the event the minister said that ESIC hospitals were facing acute shortage of skilled medical staff, hence ESIC come to decision of opening its own medical college.

In addition, 30 medical colleges in total are planned on being launched in India including 12 medical colleges with having postgraduate courses on offer too.

The first phase will see commencement of 17 medical colleges.

Chief minister Virbhadara Singh said that 2 more medical colleges in the state would be set up belonging to government sector, in near future.

The 40% admission seats in medical courses will be opened for the state students only, whereas other 40% seats will be allotted to All-India merit holders. 10% will be reserved only for ESIC beneficiaries, 5% for wards of industry owners and the remaining 5% meant for the students of the ESIC employees, explained an official.
