Nalanda University- one of the ancient international centre for learning in Bihar- has begun its first academic session in 2014-15. The classes commenced on 1st September 2014 with a total of 15 students that include five women and 10 faculty members.
The vice chancellor of the university, Gopa Sabhrawal said, “The University received about 1,000 applications from around the world from 40 countries for admissions. But only 15 best students were selected after much scrutiny and interview for the courses.” The new university will be put up at Rajgir that is 12 km away from the ancient Nalanda University. The inauguration of the University will be conducted around mid-September.
As per reports, the fully-residential university will be completed by 2020 that will include seven schools, all for post-graduate and doctoral students, offering courses in science, philosophy and spirituality and social sciences.
The selection process is still on and more students will be enrolled in September for various courses it offers.
