The Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi is all set to conduct the 'Open House' on June 17 for female candidates who have successfully cleared the JEE Advanced 2018 in an attempt to increase the number of girls in IITs. As of now, women make less than 10 per cent of the student strength in the IITs at the moment.

In the Open House, all girls who have qualified in JEE (Advanced) 2018 will get a chance to discuss (with faculty and current students) their choices of branch/institute during the counselling process, and find out more about how life is for women at IIT in general and IIT Delhi in particular.

Earlier IITs announced to add 779 more seats in the new academic session for women applicants. These seats will be in addition to the normal intake of candidates otherwise.  About 14 per cent of seats in every branch at every IIT have been designated as 'female-only' seats (this has been done by creating sufficient supernumerary seats, without any reduction in the number of seats available to non-female candidates).

The total number of female-only seats across all IITs is 1,852. The total number of women who have qualified in JEE (Advanced) 2018 is 2,076," as per the official statement.
