UGC to be replaced with Higher Education Commission of India

Government of India has announced to replace University Grants Commission (UGC) with a new regulator for higher education.

The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has released a draft legislation to repeal the UGC Act, 1956 and  sought public opinion and suggestions till July 7.

This Act may be called the Higher Education Commission of India Act, 2018.

The draft Act is in accordance with the commitment of government for reforming the regulatory systems that provide more autonomy to HE institutes.

How to send comments and suggestions?

In June 2017, Narendra Modi led government announced to scrap University Grants Commission (UGC) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) with Higher Education Empowerment Regulation Agency (HEERA).
