New Delhi: A new page in the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) website dedicated to Non Resident Indians (NRIs) and Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) was launched by HRD minister Kapil Sibal on Thursday.
The Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas (PBD) 2011 is being held at New Delhi from January 7 to 9, 2011. The focus of this year's PBD is on Education and Health.
On this occasion, the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has also brought out a booklet titled 'GYANDEEP-Building a Knowledge Society', besides a special edition of the MHRD newsletter.
The booklet aims at giving an overview of the various proposals initiated by the Ministry for bringing in reforms in the higher education sector. It also mentions some of the existing programmes and schemes of the University Grants Commission (UGC), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Indian Council for Social Science Research (ICSSR), Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS) as well as the Department of Science and Technology for enhancing faculty resources and utilizing the expertise of eminent academicians for research which can be of interest to NRIs and PIOs.
Another feature of the booklet is information on programmes run by the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs, Indian Council of Cultural Relations and MHRD for the benefit of NRIs and PIOs. A snapshot of the various international initiatives and some success stories of philanthropy of successful NRIs and PIOs is another significant feature of the booklet.
The new page in the MHRD website will give information about the opportunities available in India for faculty positions. It also provides for registration by interested persons, thus enabling creation of a data bank of NRIs and PIOs so as to utilize their talent and expertise in the creation of a knowledge society.
The special edition of the MHRD newsletter, besides giving a round-up of the major initiatives in higher education for the benefit of NRIs and PIOs, also contains a brief on some international collaborations.
