GENERAL INFORMATION ON SCHOOL
1. Brief Introduction:

Navy Children School is a co-educational school for classes from Stds I to XII and is located in the Navy Nagar at Colaba. This school was commissioned on 14 November 1989 by Mrs. Krishna Jain, President, Naval Wives Welfare Association and follows CBSE curriculum It is run by Navy Education Society (NES) and administered under the Headquarters, Western Naval Command. It prepares pupils for the examinations conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education.
2. Aim:

Navy Children School aims at the over-all development of the students’ personality laying emphasis on the imbibement of a rational outlook. The school endeavours to achieve academic excellence amongst the students and the development of insatiable thirst for knowledge. It also aims at promoting the basic human values of life.
3. Staff:

The members of the teaching staff are highly qualified and dedicated to the profession. Teachers are encouraged to attend courses and seminars to keep in touch with their respective subjects and the general development in the field of education.
4. Academic Session:

The academic session of the school is from April to March.
5. Syllabus & Curriculum:

The medium of instruction is English. For Std. IX and X, a second language option is between Hindi, Sanskrit. Sanskrit is taught as a third language from Std.VI to VIII.
6. Computer Science:

It is taught from Std I to Std XII. The stress is on computer awareness and practical work. With effect from April 2005, Computer Science has been introduced as an elective subject for Std. XI Science stream and Informatics Practices (IP) for Commerce stream. Options will be open for Biology/ Computer Science / Economics/ IP/ Geography.
7. SUPW:

Work programmes like Fine Arts, Music, Social Work, Carpentry, Pottery, Electrical Work and Repairs, Food Craft, Glass Painting etc. are taught. The curriculum includes Physical and Health Education programmes. Adequate facilities exist for both outdoor and indoor games. Qualified coaches are available for various sports and games.
8. Co-Curricular and Extra Curricular Activities:

a) The School publishes its Magazine annually. Separate magazines titled ‘Ankur’ by the Primary section and ‘Synergy’ by the Secondary as well as Senior Secondary sections has been introduced from AY 2005-06. The school News Letter 'Surf' is being published wef Academic Year (AY) 2006-07 by the students. The School organises club activities, cultural shows, PT Displays along with providing opportunities for Elocution, Debates, Quiz programmes, Music and Recitation.

b) House System: The school has an established House System aimed at fostering team spirit and healthy competition among students. The students are divided into four Houses namely Angre, Asvini,Kunjali and Trata. Each House is headed by a Captain and Vice-Captain. A member of the teaching staff acts as House Master/Mistress.

c) Award System: An award system exists in the school to encourage excellence in academics, non-scholastic and socially oriented activities.

d) Counseling:Qualified counselor provides vocational guidance, personal counseling and assistance in disciplinary dealings. Special attention is given to slow learners, dyslexics and gifted children in the learning center.

e) Visits & Excursions: The school encourages educational camps, picnics and excursions to cover all classes. These activities help train the students to manage the arrangements by themselves, under the supervision of the staff and thereby gain confidence.

9. Games: The school conducts various activities in sports. Facilities for playing hockey, basketball, football, cricket, handball, table tennis etc. are provided. Children participate in sports activities conducted by MSSA and CBSE.

10. National Cadet Corps: The School’s NCC (Junior) unit gives opportunity for training in leadership and discipline. It provides facilities for sailing, camps, tours and other outward-bound programmes. Salient features are as follows:-

a) Enrollment -June to mid August.
b) Max. 25 cadets every year as per vacancy.
c) Schedule: Friday / Working Saturday (Std VIII and IX)

d) ‘A’ Certificate Examination
i. Second year cadets eligible for the examination.
ii. Cadet should have attended at least one camp.
iii. Attendance for both the years should be a minimum of 75%.

11. The following is the schedule for Scouts & Guides, Cubs & Bulbuls:-
a) Scouts / Guides - Friday / Working Saturday (Std.VI and VII)
b) Cubs / Bulbuls - Friday / Working Saturday (Std.IV and V)

12. School Band:
The School has a full fledged band and students are trained by a qualified instructor.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE

1. Period of Admission: Registration forms are available with school office at Navy Nagar in February/ March each year.

2. Priority for Admission: The order of priority for admission is as follows:-

a) Serving Naval Personnel

b) Serving Army/ IAF/ Coast Guard Personnel who are on deputation to Navy.

c) Retired Naval Personnel

d) Serving Army/ IAF/ CG Personnel.

e) Retired Army / IAF/ CG Personnel

f) NCS Staff

g) Others

The decision of the school administration regarding the admission shall be final.

3. Age Limit:

a) Standard I: The pupil must have attained a minimum age of 5 years and maximum of 7 years on 30 Sept of the year in which admission is sought.

b) Other Classes: The minimum and maximum age for admission to all other succeeding classes will be calculated based on the age limits prescribed for Std I.

4. Birth Certificate:

The acceptable proof of age will be the Certificate of Birth issued by an authority competent to issue e.g., Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai, Notified Area Committee of the place of birth of child or Transfer Certificate from previous school. In case of service personnel, an extract from the Service Document may also be accepted in exceptional cases for provisional admission only.
