Sri Vidya Mandir School, Shivaji Nagar, Salem was started on 10th June 1971 with a strength of 175 students and 12 staff members in a thatched shed. Sri R.P. Sarathy. Managing Partner, Narasu's Coffee Company, Salem laid foundation for the first building on 10.3.74 - Smt.Vasantha Sarathy inaugurated the classes by lighting a Kuthuvilaku on the occasion and the new building was declared open by Honourable Union Minister for Energy Mr. P. Ramachandran under die presidentship of his Excellency Prabhudas B. Patwariji, Governor, Taniilnadu on 31 -12-77.

His Holiness Sri Sri Jagadguru Bharathi Theertha Swamigal, Sarada Peetam, Sringeri, in the immediate presence of his exalted Holiness Sri Sri Jagadguru Abinava Vidya Theertha Maha Swamigal, Sarada Peetam, Sringeri declared open the first floor on 12-11 -79 and again the second floor on 18-7-83.

Sri Baburam Guptha, Salem Roller Flour Mill, Salem declared open the southern Side building on 21-12-1988 under the Presidentship of Sri C. Rekchand Randa, D.R. Ranka & Bros., Jewellers, Madras. Smt. C. Kamal Jain, Member, Sri Vidya Mandir Hostel Committee lighted Kuthuvilakku. Poojaniya Pravarthak Sri Roopchandji Maharaj and Poojaniya Upa-Pravarthak Sugan Muni Maharaj, Jain Sampradaya, who was kind enough to visit ShivajiNagar School and blessed us all. Today the school is fully as a senior secondary school.
