A total of twenty seats are sanctioned to the Department of Biotechnology, GJUS&T, Hisar. Admissions to sixteen seats are made through All India Combined Entrance Examination on Biotechnology conducted by Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Admissions to the remaining four seats meant for the reserved categories (SC and BC) for the state of Haryana are made through entrance test conducted by Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar.

Eligibility Conditions :
Graduate in any discipline of Biological Science/ Agricultural Science/ Veterinary Science / Fishery Science/ Pharmacy/Engineering/Technology or Medicine (MBBS) OR
B.D.S. with at least 55% marks (pass marks for SC Candidates of Haryana).

Note: *Non credit but qualifying papers.
1. The minimum credit requirement for the M.Sc. degree in Biotechnology is 98 credits inclusive of the 11 credits for Program Elective courses.
2. Among the Program Electives Courses I, II & III, the student is required to opt for only one from each of the course and relevant laboratory practical.
3. No Program Elective Course will be run unless a number of students registered for the Program Elective Course is at least six.
4. For theory courses, one hour per week per semester is assigned as one credit. For practical courses six hours per week accounts for 3 credits. One hour per week per semester is assigned as half credit.
5. Each theory paper examination will be of 3 hours duration and practical examination will be of 4 hours duration.
6. After the completion of second semester the students are required to undertake an In-Plant Training /Summer Training MBD-595 comprising of 4-6 weeks in any industry/research organization/institute and shall be required to submit an In-Plant/Summer Training Report for which seminar, presentation and viva-voce examination will be conducted.
7. In the fourth semester the students are required to undertake Investigation Problem MBD-600 comprising of 14-16 weeks and shall be required to submit an Investigation Report in the form of Thesis for which seminar, presentation and viva-voce examination will be conducted.
8. The courses MBL-511 Introductory Biotechnology of 4 credits will be offered as Open Elective for students of other departments in 2nd Semester.
