Course Syllabus

Theory:

• General pathology including Immunopathology
• Systemic pathology
• Haematology
• Blood Banking including Transfusion Medicine
• Cytopathology
• Laboratory methods including quality control
• Applied Microbiology & Serology
• Applied Biochemistry

Practical:

• Collection and dispatching of samples to laboratory and handling of all equipments
• Hands on experience in techniques, its interpretation and reporting
  • Gram’s stain
  • Albert stain
  • Z. N. stain
  • Hanging drop preparation
• KOH / Lactophenol preparation
• Sterilization techniques, Culture- methods, identification and reporting
• Hands on experience and interpretation of serological tests like Widal, VDRL, HIV, HBV, RF, ASO and Pregnancy tests
• Microscopic examination of stools and reporting
• Clinical Biochemistry- Procedures and interpretations of routine biochemical estimations including electrolytes
• Hands on experience in and reporting of routine haematological investigations and special investigations like Platelet count, Sickling tests, Reticulocyte count, PCV, Blood indices, Bone marrow examination etc.
• Histopathology – techniques and reporting
• Cytopathology – techniques and reporting
• Techniques and interpretation of various procedures in transfusion medicine

Posting Schedule :

Total Duration 24 Months

• Cytopathology and Clinical pathology 6 months
• Haematology and Blood Bank 6 months
• Histopathology 6 months
• Biochemistry 1 ½ month
• Microbiology 1 ½ month
• Revision in all sections 3 months

• Inter departmental seminars
• Post graduate students should be encouraged to attend CME, Workshops ,Conferences and present papers
