Kannur University is a multi-campus university which are set up at Kannur, Kasargod, Mananthavady, Payyannur, Thalassery, and Kanhangad. It was established after the passing of Act No. 22 of 1996 of the Kerala Legislative Assembly. A university by the name of "Malabar University" had come into existence even earlier by the passing of an ordinance by the Governor of Kerala, on 9 November 1995. It was establish in the state of Kerala a teaching, residential and affiliating university to provide for the development of higher education in Kasargod and Kannur revenue Districts and the Mananthavady Taluk of Wayanad District.
How to Reach Kannur University?
By Road - The Administration Block of the University is located at Managattuparamba, Kalliassry Grama Panchayath, Kannur Distrcit. It is just one kilometer away from the Dharmasala Junction which is 15 km away from Kannur in the National Highway - 17 towards Payyannur.
By Rail - Nearest railway station is Kannapuram which is 6 km away from Managattuparamba. The major railway station with complete train access is in Kannur town itself.
By Air - The nearest airport is at Karipur, Kozhikode about 135 km away and the Mangalore airport is 155 km away approximately.

Kannur University Facilities
Library Facilities - Kannur University Central Library is providing services from 1998. It was opened to the academic community in 1999. The Library has been serving the various sections of the University community viz., students, research scholars, faculty members, staff, graduates and students belonging to other Universities in the jurisdiction of Kannur University. The Library is also a recognized research Centre of the University in the subjects of History, Sanskrit, Statistics, Philosophy, English, Sociology, Economics, Malayalam, Urdu and Music. It provides the services of DELNET and UGC-INFONET e-journal consortium. In addition to the Central Library, there are also campus libraries functioning at Kasaragod, Nileshwaram, Payyannur, Mangattuparamba, Thalassery and Mananthavady.
