Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, Pondicherry is a Deemed University having multidisciplinary teaching and research foundation that offers medicine, dentistry and nursing courses. SBV, Pondicherry has been established by Shri M.K. Rajagopalan, who is also its Chairman. It was initially established as ‘Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute’, which grew rapidly under the able leadership of its founder chairman into a distinguished centre of knowledge, learning and research. The hard work of the founding chairman and his dedicated team of eminent medical administrators, faculty and staff were richly rewarded when the Government of India declared the Constituent Colleges as Deemed University, as per the recommendations of the UGC during the year 2008. This Institution was awarded the status of ‘Deemed to-be-University; in the name and style of ‘Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth’ under section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956.

Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth is a collegiate University with four colleges at two campuses, each offering a modern, vibrant location for study and learning.

Constituent Colleges at Two Campuses

1.  Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute, Pillayarkuppam, Pondicherry

2.  Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences Pillayarkuppam, Pondicherry

3.  Kasturba Gandhi Nursing College, Pillayarkuppam, Pondicherry

4.  Shri Sathya Sai Medical College and Research Institute, Ammapettai, Kancheepuram

Shri Sathya Sai Medical College and Research institute in Tamil nadu, is an off-campus institute. Institutes at Pondicherry comprise the Main Campus and the headquarters of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth. The main campus comprises of the medical and dental hospitals, medical, dental and nursing colleges. These are all duly accredited and recognised by the respective statutory bodies such as the Medical Council of India, Dental Council of India and the Nursing Council of India. All the constituent colleges are located within a walking distance. The Main Campus area is spread over 55 acres of land and Off Campus area is spread over 120 Acres.

Location - The Deemed University HQ is located in the Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute campus, Pillaiyarkuppam, Puducherry, on the ECR National Highway towards Cuddalore.

Facilities at SBV, Pondicherry

Hostels – The institute has separate hostels for boys and girls, every hostel room is air-conditioned and provides all the basic facilities, inclusive of filtered water and hygienic food.

Library – The institute library is housed in a 3 storied building, with a carpet area of 4,000 sq. mts. consisting of 8 Reading rooms. It has a collection of more than 15,000 books, encyclopaedias’, journals and reports. In addition it has an extensive collection of a wide range of electronic resources in form of online e-journals, e-books and catalogues over the DELNET. It has in-house internet and multimedia facility and the comfort of separate reading and seminar halls, with a study space for 300 students. The library is fully automated with sophisticated library management software.

Central Sector Scholarship Scheme – The scheme is being implemented by Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. Only students who are above 80th percentile of successful candidates in the relevant stream for a particular Board of Examination, in class XII of 10+2 pattern or equivalent and not belonging to the creamy layer as defined by the Department of Personnel and Training in their Notification No. 36012/22/93-Estt.(Res), dated 9th March, 2004 (Annexure-V) and as may be further modified from time to time, pursuing regular courses (not correspondence or distance mode) from recognized educational institutions and not availing of any other scholarship scheme, would be eligible for consideration this Scheme. This is application to all categories of students both ‘General’ and ‘Reserved’.

The rate of scholarship would be Rs. 1000/- per month at Graduation level for first three years of College and University courses and Rs. 2000/- per month in the 4^th and 5^th year. The scholarship would be paid for 10 months in an academic year. More details on this scholarship scheme can be had from the Office of Registrar.

CIDRF - The state-of-the-art Central Inter- Disciplinary Research Facility at Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute was established, at an initial cost of Rs. 15 crore to provide the latest in instrumental and laboratory facilities for undertaking cutting edge research. This research infrastructure, housed in a 6,000-odd sq. ft facility is equipped to carry out frontline research in personalised medicine, including genomics and proteomics; regenerative medicine involving stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cells and various others.

Admission NRI and OCI - The percentage of NRI students to be admitted for undergraduate courses shall not exceed 15% of total intake.

The following guidelines shall be followed for admission to NRI students.

• Admission to the NRI seats may be made on the basis of the marks in the qualifying examination.
• NRI financially supporting the candidate must be a blood relative such as Father / Mother / Brother / Sister / Uncle / Aunt only.
• Applicant for admission under NRI Quota shall not have completed 21 years of age as on the 1^st of July of that respective academic year.
• Candidate must furnish the photocopies of the following supporting documents:
• NRI Status Certificate of the financial supporter issued by the Embassy of respective country under their seal.
• NRI Bank Account Pass Book of the financial supporter
• Passport of the Financial Supporter
• Nativity Certificate of the Financial Supporter

1. The pre-medical course may be conducted either at Medical/Dental College, or a Science College

2.  Marks obtained in Mathematics are not be considered for admission to MBBS/BDS course

Transport – The University has its own fleet of buses to facilitate safe and timely transportation of students and staff to the University Campus from and to various parts of Puducherry during the day.

Cafeteria - The University Campus has a café to provide a quick bite for the students, staff and the visitors near the OPD counter along with a regular mess that provides sumptuous food during the working hours.

Fitness and Recreation - The campus has a well equipped Gym and Fitness Centre along with provision for indoor and outdoor games and other recreational facilities for the students and staff to keep themselves fit.
