Semester –I

PED 151  Fundamentals of Entrepreneurship

Objective

The Course attempts to equip the students with the knowledge of the basic principles and functionalities of Entrepreneurship. The course will prove to be helpful for the students in learning to expedite the entrepreneurial & managerial functions in corporate arena.

Unit  I

Introduction to Entrepreneurship: Meaning, Classification, Process, Significance, Barriers to entrepreneurship. Types of entrepreneurs,Functions & Characteristics of a successful Entrepreneur.

Unit  II

Promotion of a new venture: Business plan – Meaning, Importance, Elements, Preparation of a business plan, Determinants of an effective business planning. Registration of an enterprise – Provisional registration, Permanent registration; Procedure of registration.

Unit  III

Analysis of External Environment: Meaning & Types of environment, Environmental analysis, Need & Importance. Micro & Macro Analysis.

Unit  IV

Management Concepts: Meaning, Features, Importance, Principles of management, Management v/s Administration, Levels of management, Managerial roles & skills.

Unit  V

Elements of Management Functions: Definition, Importance & Process of Planning, Organizing, Staffing, Directing, Controlling.

 

PED 152   Managerial Economics

Objective

The course aims at acquainting the students with the elementary concepts of economics, which is vital for effective managerial decision-making. An attempt has been made to familiarize the students with both, the Microeconomics as well as Macroeconomics.

Unit I

Meaning and Scope of Managerial Economics, Important factors influencing the managerial decisions of the firm Utility analysis: Law of diminishing marginal utility, Equi-marginal utility.

Unit II

Demand & Supply: Meaning, Law of demand & Supply, Elasticity of demand & supply (Price, income and cross elasticity), Factors affecting demand & supply.

Unit III

Production function: Concept, Short and Long run productive function, Laws of variable proportion, Isoquants, Returns to Scale, Internal and External Economies and Diseconomies, Least cost combination.

Unit IV

Market structure-Meaning, Classification, and Characteristics & Price-output determination under Perfect Market, Imperfect Market & Monopoly.

Unit V

Theory of Factor pricing: Marginal Productivity Theory, Business Cycle.

 

PED 153   Management Accounting

Objective

The course provides the knowledge of the importance of accounting & finance in business, its sources and ways to analyze financial data to be able to come out with financial status of a corporate enterprise.

Management Accounting: Meaning, Features, Objectives, Role & Techniques of accounting, Differences b/w financial & management accounting.

Funds Flow and Cash flow Statements

PED 154   Business Laws

Objective

The Objective of this course is to acquaint the students with the concepts of contract and agreement and help them learn to differentiate between them. The course will help them understand the effects of different types of contracts.

Unit  I

  • Introduction to Contract: Meaning of contract, important definitions (Sec.2a to Sec.2j), valid essentials of contract, difference in agreement and contract
  • Classification of Contracts
  • Proposal and Acceptance: Meaning of proposal, types, and legal rules as to the offer. Acceptance: legal rules, communication of offer and acceptance, revocation of acceptance.

Unit  II 

  • Performance of contract: meaning, modes of performance, essentials of a valid tender, time as essence of contract, person entitled to demand performance, time, place and manner of performance, appropriation of payments.
  • Discharge of contract: meaning and modes of discharge of contract, types of breach of contract.
  • Remedies for breach of contract: suit for rescission of contract, suit for damages, suit for quantum merits, suit for specific performance,

Unit  III

Sale of Goods Act, 1930: contract of sale of goods: meaning, essentials, difference between sale and agreement to sell, hire purchase concept, classification of goods. Condition & warranty: meaning, difference, types, Doctrine of caveat emptor. Performance of contract: meaning, rules relating to delivery of goods, duties and rights of buyer.  Unpaid seller: meaning, rights-against the goods and against the buyer. Remedies for breach of  contract: buyer’s remedy and auction sale.

Unit  IV

Consumer Protection Act, 1986: Objectives, Important terms, Rights of consumer. Consumer protection councils, Dispute redressal agencies: district forum, state commission, central commission, differences.

Unit  V

Companies Act 1956: Meaning of company, Basic features, Kinds of companies, Promotion and Incorporation, Privileges given to an independent private company. Case study, Project work, Student’s presentation

 

PED – 155   Seminar Presentation

Objective:

To create awareness regarding current trends, issues and researches related to various aspects of Entrepreneurship. Each student will be assigned a topic in the beginning of the semester. They will be required to prepare and submit a project report & thereafter will have to give a presentation on the same. The panel of examiners will evaluate the presentation

PED 251  Small Scale Business Management

Objective

The Objective of this course is to acquaint the students with the functions of small scale business management, which a businessman is generally exposed to or is affected by. The course aims at exposing the student to the regulatory framework of the Small Scale Industries.

Unit  I

Entrepreneurial Competencies-Nature of entrepreneurial competencies, Entrepreneurial Skills, Personality Traits, Behavioral Qualities.

Unit  II

Small Scale Industries In India-Meaning and spectrum of Small Scale Industries, Nature, Characteristics, Importance, Objectives, Roles ,Performance and prospects in India. Problems and Remedial Measures.

Unit  III

Incentives and Subsidies for SSI- Meaning of incentives and subsidies, Specific objectives, Government Assistance, Concessions and Incentives

Unit  IV

Production and Financial Management- Objectives, Important terms, Rights of consumer. Consumer protection councils, Dispute Production System, Various Production Strategies in small enterprise. Meaning, Importance of Financial Management. Goals, functions and key components (Books and statements of financial statements). Role of SIDBI & BIFR.

Unit  V

Human Resource issues- Meaning and definition of Human Resource Management, Importance, Various aspects of HRM in entrepreneurial venture.

 

PED 252   Project Management

Objective

The Course attempts to equip the students with the knowledge of the basic governing principles and functionalities of various projects undertaken in a business organization. The course focuses on all the aspects of a project- from its planning to its completion.

Project- Meaning, features, classification, and life cycle of project Plan of project management.

Unit  II

  • Project Formulation -Introduction, stages of project formulation.
  • Project Feasibility- Introduction- Market, Technical and Financial feasibility.

Unit  III

Project Appraisal- Meaning, Scope, Types of Appraisal. Social Cost Benefit Analysis- Meaning, UNIDO & L-M Approach; Role of DIC.

Capital Budgeting-Meaning, Objectives, Techniques of Capital Budgeting.

PED 253   Production and Operations Management

Objective

The Objective of this course is to acquaint the students with the Production function, which is the primary function of an enterprise. The course aims at exposing the students to the various aspects & concepts of production & operations activities that are important for the smooth running of an enterprise, such as Work Design, Productivity, Quality Control etc.

Unit  I

Introduction: Concept, Role & Importance of Operations Management in Business, Concept of Value Chain Plant Location and Types of layout.

Unit  II

Production Planning & control: Meaning, Concept, MRP I and MRP II, Forecasting, Routing, Scheduling, Expediting, Aggregate planning and Master scheduling

Unit  III

Work study & work measurement: Concept, Work Design, Approaches-legal, ethical & environmental issues, Objectives, Method Study, Measuring Productivity & Ways of Improving Productivity.

Unit  IV

Materials management: Overview, Concept, Inventory Control, Techniques, Importance; Materials Management Information System (MMIS).

PED 254   Marketing Management

Objective:

The Course aims at equipping the students with the knowledge of the marketing aspect of business and helps one learn the marketing mix concepts.

Unit   I

Introduction: Nature, scope and importance of marketing, Approaches to marketing, Selling Vs marketing concept, Core Concepts of Marketing, Marketing Process.

Unit   II

Marketing Of Services: Introduction to service marketing, Meaning, nature, classification of services, Service mix, Challenges of marketing, Relationship Marketing.

Unit   III

Managing the product: Product concept, levels of products, product mix, product line decisions, Individual Product decisions, Product Life Cycle.

Unit   IV

  • Pricing: Objectives of pricing, methods of pricing, Factors influencing pricing.
  • Promotion Tools I- Advertising-meaning, objectives, advertising decisions, Personal Selling-objectives, functions and principles; process

PED 255  Project Report

Objective:

Each student will be assigned a project in the beginning of II Semester by the faculty to work on a topical subject having a bearing on entrepreneurship development. The student will be required to work for at least 15 days in a business organization under the guidance of an Entrepreneur.
