About Indian Institute of Management - IIM Ranchi

IIM Ranchi is one the newly established Institute of Management. Indian Institute of Management Ranchi was established at Ranchi in 2010. It was inaugurated on July 6, 2010. Also known as IIMR, it is the result of the efforts of the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta and the Government of Jharkhand, working under the guidance of HRD Ministry, Government of India. Keeping in with traditions of other IIMs, IIM Ranchi awards only diplomas and not degrees. IIM Ranch’s Diplomas are equivalent to MBA.  As of 2011, IIM Ranchi offers a 2 year PGDM as its flagship program and has launched PFPEX (part time executive program) recently for research work. The course outline has been meticulously designed, and is being delivered by their world-renowned faculty of IIM Calcutta and XLRI Jamshedpur. IIM’s have another tradition, that of mentoring, IIM Ranchi is being mentored by IIM Calcutta. As of 2011, the institute is operating from a temporary campus in Suchana Bhavan, behind the Governor House premises. It’s permanent campus is under development at Birhar village on the Khunti-Karra road, about 35 kilometres (22 mi) from Ranchi.

Transportation - Ranchi is well-connected with a number of major cities of India via Air, Trains and Roads.

How to Reach Ranchi

Airlines

• Ranchi's domestic airport – Birsa Munda Airport (Code: IXR) is situated approximately 7 km south of the institute. It is well connected with other metro cities like Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune and Chennai.
• There are eight direct daily flights to Ranchi from Mumbai, New Delhi and Kolkata at convenient timings. Some of the airlines which fly to Ranchi are Air India, Kingfisher Airlines and Jet Airways Konnect.

Trains

• Ranchi is well-connected by rail with major cities like Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru, Kolkata and Jaipur.
• Ranchi is served by different stations, but the two primary ones where majority of the trains commence from are Ranchi Railway Station and Hatia Railway Station. Ranchi railway station is about 5-6 kms and Hatia Railway station is about 7 kms from the institute.

IIM Ranchi Facilities

Classrooms – Two ultra modern classrooms in the academic block are equipped with computers, projectors, modern sound systems, OHPs and other audio-visual tools. They have ergonomically designed furniture, climate control systems, aesthetic lighting and pleasant interiors. These luxurious facilities are meant to make the learning environment, the most optimum.

Hostel – IIM Ranchi students reside at Nalanda Hostel. It is located across the road from Suchana Bhavan. Nalanda Hostel is a part of Shri Krishna Institute of Public Administration, an undertaking of Jharkhand Govt. The hostel has large, well ventilated, fully furnished rooms which can accommodate two students. Every room has an attached bathroom. Other facilities include laundry, a common computer room, air-conditioned sports room equipped with sport facilities for table-tennis and carom. All the rooms have been equipped with LAN connection for each occupant. The hostel also houses a canteen which also provides stationary and toiletries and a TV with satellite television.

Library - IIM Ranchi has a well-stocked library consisting of a mix of books prescribed by the faculty and books on the discipline of management and related areas. The library subscribes to a number of periodicals, newspapers, newsletters and magazines. The library offers Business Source Complete to its students.

IT Facilities - The academic block and hostel campus is Wi-Fi/ LAN enabled with 24X7 dedicated lease line connection. It provides 1:1 10Mbps internet speed for every student. The printer room in the hostel has printer connected to the network. The entire academic block including the library is equipped with Wi-Fi. The computer laboratory has more than 15 computers.

Sports Facilities - The sports facilities include a jogging track, an outdoor badminton court, a volleyball court, a tennis court and a ring football court. A fully equipped gymnasium is also available for use by the students.

Placement Committee – The placement committee is responsible for organising placement camps and assisting all the students in getting placement in the best organisations.  

Extra Curricular Activities - IIMR has clubs like finesse – the finance club, marquess club – the marketing club, aayam - the entrepreneurship club, samarpan - the social responsibility club, sankriya - operations/strategy club and gnosiomania - the quizzing club. These clubs provide an avenue for students to showcase their talents. The clubs also plan various events and workshops throughout the year.

Achievements

• IIM Ranchi is ranked 28^th Overall and 4^th Best in the eastern region as per Hindustan Times (Aug 2011).

• IIM Ranchi is the only business school in India to offer the Capston Business Simulation Course for its Flagship course - PGP curriculum. The Capston course is world renowned for Strategy, Cross Functional Alignment and slecetion of tactics to build a successful company. Most other business schools offer these to executives only.
