About Medvarsity

Medvarsity is India’s First Medical E-learning Venture initiated by Apollo Hospitals Group, which also happens to be the First JCI-accredited Hospital in India. It was launched in 2000 to promote quality education through Information Technology resources for Health Care Providers (HCP) at any distance. By doing this it has facilitated research in delivery of distance medical education across various specialties. Medvarsity has about 5000 hrs of quality content and is in the process of acquiring more. In addition to being supported by the strong consultant base of the Apollo Group of Hospitals various other eminent faculties from India and abroad also contribute to the content. This content is organized, structured and web enabled in the form of audiovisual lectures, multimedia textbooks, procedural videos, interactive learning tools, clinical case reviews, clinical updates, journal club, Virtual Medical Library, guidelines and protocols, online conferences and CME, live/recorded workshops, expert interactions and discussion forums etc.

Medvarsity also conducts training in administration skills, leadership, interpersonal skills, clinical skills modules, teacher training modules and objective testing training. Medvarsity complements the existing medical education infrastructure by providing a dynamic network of various medical colleges across the country.  It enables students, faculty and practitioners to participate in the virtual classroom, where they can interact with the global peer community and have access to knowledge, resources and techniques cutting across geographical barriers. Augmenting these services is the expertise in online evaluation and assessment, e learning consultancies, automation of libraries, conducting exams online, online payment gateways, telemedicine links etc. Medvarsity has already entered into MOUs with four medical colleges, a dental college, a nursing college and nearly 2500 medical students and doctors registered on its platform. Some of the Medvarsity courses are even recognized by the Royal College of General Practitioners, U.K.

Medvarsity offers two kinds of services:

1.  Courses/training programs for Doctors, Nurses and other graduates interested in entering the healthcare sector

2.  Complementing medical education by providing study material/modules, preparatory modules for the Medical students in medical colleges.

Method of Instruction

Medvarsity follows a hybrid model, combination of both online and offline education. First part of the course requires self-study with assistance from online faculty and second part provides practical exposure. Student is provided with learning modules in various formats such as print, CDs, Web based and instructor led. It is ensured that each module maintains the flow of the entire course and that appropriate format is used to enhance the overall learning in an effective manner. Progress of students is evaluated on a regular basis throughout the course.

Associations and Affiliations

Medvarsity has been associated and affiliated to a number of reputed national as well as International bodies.

• RCGP, UK - In association with the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP), Medvarsity offers courses in Family Medicine as well as Emergency Medicine.

• ASCI, Hyderabad - Medvarsity in association with Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) has been involved in imparting the Health Insurance training for the CEOS and Senior Officials of Third Party Administrators (TPAs).

• University of Sydney - Medvarsity markets the course "International Postgraduate Peadiatric Certificate" offered by University of Sydney and the Children's Hospital, Westmead, Australia in collaboration with Apollo Hospitals Educational and Research Foundation (AHERF)

• AHERF - Apollo Hospitals Educational & Research Foundation (AHERF) is running a variety of educational and training programs including Nursing, Hospital Administration, Physiotherapy, Emergency Medicine, Surgery and Anaesthesiology.

• RLA - Royal Liverpool Academy (RLA) in association with Medvarsity offers courses in Emergency Medicine. The Royal Liverpool Academy is the education wing and centre of the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals Trust. It is one of the largest University Teaching Hospitals in the UK and has one of the largest Emergency Departments. The RLA will participate in the quality assurance framework of course assessment.

• CBSE - Medvarsity has partnered with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to start a course in Medical Diagnostics under the Vocational Education program of CBSE. In line with the Board's aim of making education more employment friendly, this course is being piloted in The Good Samaritan School in Sarita Vihar, New Delhi. The course will be offered in Class 11th and 12th, and the students will learn Anatomy and Physiology and Diagnostic Radiology in Class 11th and Clinical Biochemistry and Microbiology and Laboratory Medicine in Class 12th.

• SIMTICS - Medvarsity has joined hands with SIMTICS, a New Zealand-based software firm for an online method to learn complex medical procedures Medvarsity. Medvarsity will act as a reseller for SIMTICS in India and will provide the SIMTICS clinical procedure simulations online through both standalone and incorporated into certificate courses.

• NPA – Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel, National Police Academy (NPA) is associated with Medvarsity to avail the training program in ‘Sports Injury Management’ to its trainees.

• DPMAA - Divine Proportions Medical Aesthetics Academy (DPMAA) is a professional body comprising of Plastic Surgeons and Dermatologists of international repute and having a vast and exclusive experience in Medical Aesthetics. DPMAA is the academic wing of Divine Proportions and aims at imparting and enhancing skills based on sound scientific principles and evidence-based medicine without any commercial bias.
