Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) is a Central University which was established by an Act of the Parliament on 9th January 1998, with an All India Jurisdiction. The mandate of the University is to promote the Urdu language, provide higher and vocational education through Urdu medium and focus on woman's education. The University grants equivalence to various programmes of study of other Institutions and Universities. The Certificates recognized by Universities / Govt. boards and State & Central Ministries are granted recognition by the University as equivalent thereto. It is named after Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, India's first Minister of Education, a freedom fighter in India's struggle for independence, and a scholar of Islam and Urdu literature. The University has Nine Regional Centers, Five Sub-Regional Centers and 140 Study Centers in various states in India. The University is spread over an area of 200 acres.

Facilities
Polytechnic Colleges - MANUU has also started Polytechnic Colleges at Hyderabad, Bangalore and Darbhanga. MANUU's I.T.I's are working at Hyderabad, Bangalore and Darbhanga.
Model Schools - It has also established model schools at Hyderabad and Darbhanga.
Colleges of Teacher Education - The University has 4 Colleges of Teacher Education working at Hyderabad, Bhopal, Darbhanga and Srinagar. N.T.S. (Mysore) has recently established its field unit at MANUU campus Gachibowli, Hyderabad.
Hostels - The University provides separate facilities of Hostel for Boys and Girls. There is 1 for Girls & 3 for Boys with Gym & Reading Room.
Library - The Library has rich Urdu collection comprising of monographs, reference works etc. It is spread over 2 Floors and subscribes around 35 current periodicals in Urdu, 135 in English, 9 in Hindi and 17 popular magazines apart from 13 Newspapers in four languages i.e. Urdu, English, Telugu and Hindi. The Library conducts student’s orientation classes for students of each department every year regularly, soon after the academic admissions are over. All sections of the Library are computerized and the documents can be searched on OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) within the Library. It has CD/DVD Mirror Software, by which Encyclopaedias, Directories, Handbooks, etc., can be stored on the server, and can be accessed on all the nodes on Intranet on the Campus. The audiovisual section of the Library has a TV, MP3 system, Videocassettes, VCD’s, Audio cassettes of ELTS, TOEFEL, GMAT, etc. The library has shifted to web-enabled user-friendly “NewGenLib” Library Software which is based on Unicode, by which documents data can be entered and accessed in Urdu, Arabic, Persian, Hindi and all regional languages. The Software is based on Linux, which does not have a virus effect.
Health Centre - The Health Centre of the University provides medical facilities to the students. The centre, apart from providing general out-patient and First-aid facilities also caters to emergency services.
Transportation - City Buses from Nampally, Secunderabad, Charminar, Dilsukh Nagar, Koti, Lakdi-ka-Pul Bus Stop, Mehdipatnam, Lingampally are available. Ask for Telecom Nagar Stop Near Gachibowli Cross Roads. From Secunderabad - Via Mehdipatnam Bus Stop.
Scholarships and Fellowships - The University provides Merit-cum-Means Freeship or Half-Freeship to 20% and 40% of the students respectively based on merit as well as the economic status of the students. A Scholarship of Rs.1000/- per month for students has been implemented from the academic year 2008-09. A student can avail any one of the scholarships in an academic year. The University has initiated welfare measures for the students pursuing Postgraduate Courses with the sanction of a scholarship of Rs. 1000/- per month. A fellowship of Rs. 3000/- and Rs. 5000/- is provided to the scholars of M. Phil. and Ph. D. Scholars respectively. For the students who want to earn while they learn, a scheme namely “Earn While You Learn” has been introduced.
University Centres
These are as follows:
Directorate of Distance Education - The Directorate of Distance Education of the University is mainly targeted to serve Uneducated Youth, Drop-outs, Women, House Wives and Uneducated Adults. Different courses are being introduced on a need basis from time to time. The courses are being augmented with various types of student support facilities like Toll-Free telephone lines, video programmes telecast on Doordarshan Urdu channel and the audio programmes aired by the All India Radio. To strengthen its commitment of serving Urdu language and people associated with it, an Examination Centre was established at Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 2006 and efforts are underway to establish the Centres at Doha, Qatar and London, UK. Initially, these courses were open to Non-Resident Indians only but now foreign nationals can also apply, provided their degree/qualifying examination is recognized by Association of Indian Universities (AIU). Candidates without any formal education can also take admission in any of the undergraduate course provided they qualify the eligibility test conducted by the University. The admitted candidates are provided Self Instructional Material by post and the academic counselling is held at the opted Study Centre at weekends.
Academic Staff College - The college offers Orientation Courses, Refresher Courses for the Degree and Post Graduate College faculty and Workshops for Academic Administrators, faculty and Principals.
Directorate / Department of Women's Education - It is involved in teaching, research and empirical work. The Department provides a 2-Year M.A course, 1-year M.Phil. and PhD (till 5years) in Women Studies. A number of successful M.Phils have been awarded under the guidance of the experienced teachers. Various programmes have been organized in order to provide an opportunity to women from all walks of life to participate in counselling and discussions pertaining to women issues. Through one of its unique programmes, it has provided a platform to Women (small scale) entrepreneurs and Housewives to showcase their handicrafts/hand-made works in university ambience that have helped them to communicate with students and teacher community and shed their hesitation.
SC/ST Cell - University Grants Commission sanctioned a special cell for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in the year 2004 in the University. The Cell provides assistance to the SC/ST students in admissions and other related matters and to assist in the implementation of reservation policy in the appointments for teaching and non-teaching posts. The University has been taking care of the students of SC/ST in the admission process, scholarship and hostel facility etc. whenever required in addition to the general welfare of the SC/ST students. All the Departments of University strictly adhere to the rules of reservation i.e. 15% in the case of Scheduled Castes and 7.5% for Scheduled Tribes at the time of admission in various courses of studies. University offers dual mode of education i.e. regular mode in the campus and also distance mode. University has been providing hostel accommodation to all the SC and ST students on a priority basis. Moreover, the SC and ST students are exempted from payment of Hostel fee (room rent).
Coaching for Minorities - Coaching for Minorities for entry into Services has been established in the University. This Centre is funded by University Grants Commission under Merged Schemes in the XIth Plan. The objective of this Centre is to provide coaching to the candidates belonging to Minority communities such as Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhist etc, who are desirous but lack motivation and guidance. An extension of its facilities of Coaching Classes for Civil Services, MANUU-CSE Coaching Academy provides coaching to students for Banking Services. Seats- 50 (Reservation for girls 40% i.e. 20 seats). No tuition fee will be charged. A nominal fee will be charged for registration and library. Hostel accommodation will be available for outstation students. Charges for hostel & food are separate. A Stipend of Rs. 2000/- p m will be available to 20% of the admitted students on merit cum means basis.
Campus Placement - The University has established a Campus Placement Centre for the benefit of the students who roll out of this University. The Campus Placement Centre invites various Companies in the corporate sector to conduct campus recruitment.
Guest House - All the rooms in the Guest House have a solar water heating system, split air-conditioners, TV and telephone facilities. The Guest House has two VIP Suits, Three Deluxe Rooms, Six Single Rooms, Committee Hall, TV Lounge apart from Dining Hall. The Guest House mainly caters to the boarding and lodging facilities for university guests and participants of seminars, symposium, workshops, conference, and training programmes organized by the University’s Centres / Departments, as well for those sponsored by the UGC. Scholars and Teachers from other educational/academic institutions who come to Hyderabad for academic work and are sponsored by their respective institutions are also provided accommodations.
Other Facilities - Computer Centre at Lecture Hall Complex, Canteen, Post Office, ATM - Indian Overseas Bank, Day Care Centre for Employee's Babies etc.
