B. Arch. Interior Design or Bachelor of Architecture in Interior Design is an undergraduate Fashion and Interior Designing course. Interior design means a group of various yet related projects that involve turning an interior space into an effective setting for the range of human activities that are to take place there. The degree course is awarded after successful completion of a five years program or course that covers the study of management aspects and supervision techniques specific to the arrangement of living space. In other words, it is a degree course which covers the study of organizing, managing and planning of the interiors of homes, offices, retail shops, hotels, airports, exhibition halls, theatres, studios and commercial establishments etc. The B. Arch. (Interior Design) degree program often combines the study of aspects of architecture, environmental psychology, product design, traditional decoration, fine arts, liberal arts and science & technology courses.
B. Arch. Interior Design Eligibility
The basic eligibility criteria for pursuing a B. Arch. (Interior Design) degree is qualifying 10+2 or equivalent examination, with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with a reasonably high percentage of marks (minimum 50%) in the aggregate and clearing the different national and state level entrance exams such as All India Engineering Entrance Exam (AIEEE), Birla Institute of Technology and Science Admission Test (BITSAT) etc, conducted by different universities and colleges across the country.
Besides the entrance exam, one another exam i.e. National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) is conducted by the National Institute of Advanced Studies in Architecture (NIASA), Pune, which is a body of Council of Architecture (CoA). National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) is essential for getting admissions to the B. Arch. degree course at the major institutes or colleges of Architecture such as the NITs, IITs, etc. across the country.
Selection to the B. Arch. (Interior Design) degree course is based on marks secured in the final merit i.e. total marks aggregated in the final exams of 10+2 and the entrance exams.
A Joint entrance Exam (JEE) is conducted by Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) in the country. The entrance to the IITs can be secured only after clearing this JEE.
An examination is also conducted by the Associate Membership of the Institute of Engineers (AMIE), which enables working people in the private/public sector and diploma holders to acquire a Bachelor's degree in Architecture (Interior Design) through distance education. The degree awarded is considered equivalent to a regular B. Arch. (Interior Design) degree.
