Held from 2nd - 5th March, 2022

Sustainable energy sources are energy sources which are not expected to be depleted in a time frame relevant to the human race, and which therefore contribute to the sustainability of all species. Sustainable energy sources are most often regarded as including all renewable sources, such as solar power, wind power, wave power, geothermal power, tidal power and others. Renewable energy technologies are essential contributors to sustainable energy as they generally contribute to world energy security and generally reducing dependence on fossil fuel resources and providing opportunities for mitigating greenhouse gases. To address this crucial issue World Sustainable Energy Days are celebrated during the first week of March.

History - The O.Ö. Energiesparverband is the energy agency of Upper Austria. It was set up by the regional government in 1991 to promote energy efficiency, renewable energy sources and innovative energy technologies. The main target groups are private households, public bodies (e.g. municipalities) and businesses. The energy agency is active on local, regional, national, EU and international levels with numerous projects and programmes. This also includes the organisation of seminars and events, e.g. the World Sustainable Energy Days, one of the largest annual European conferences on sustainable energy (over 1,000 participants from 61 countries in 2007). Renewable energy sources and energy efficiency are the cornerstones of any sustainable energy policy.

Events - The O.Ö. Energiesparverband co-ordinates and implements numerous projects supported by EU programmes (e.g. in the framework of the Intelligent Energy Europe, FP6, INNOVATION programmes) and is member of several European energy networks (FEDARENE, EUFORES, Energy & Transport Forum). A main field of activity of the agency are comprehensive information and awareness raising activities on sustainable energy production and use, for example the provision of energy advice to private households, public bodies and companies (more than 15,000 advice sessions/year), media campaigns, training courses or publications for different target groups.Various organisations organise conferences, preparatory workshops, seminars, campaigns to raise awareness on sustainable energy, paper on renewable energy sources, energy trade fairs etc.

Holiday Status - It is not a public holiday.
