Baba Mast Nath History

Often known as Sidh Shiromani Baba Mastnath ji, his life was full of miracles and wonders. Legends say that he appeared in 1764 in a village named Kansrati in Rohtak district in Haryana. A merchant named Sabala brought him up and was named Masta. He started showing his supernatural powers right from the childhood. He was omnipresent while shepherding, a spectacle discovered by his father. He also caused clouds to rain with his spiritual powers. He used to mesmerize villagers and shepherds by distributing milk among them from a single bucket without even emptying it once. He was often sighted to be in company of many sages in his courtyard. And whenever people enquire about his whereabouts he would always pretend to be ignorant. These supernatural occurrences convinced his father Sabala that his son was not an ordinary person. He discussed all these incidents with the villagers and decided to hand over him to some saint. But they were unable to find out any such saint.

After sometime Shri Narmienath ji, a renowned saint and follower of Aai sect visited Mast Nath’s village. Child Masta requested him to take him as his disciple. After initial refusal, he gave in to his request and named him “Mastnath”. He performed many miracles in company of ‘Darshani yogis.’ These yogis tried to convince other yogis from all of their 12 sects that they should worship Mastnath ji, but failed to do so. Then Baba Mastnath ji demonstrated his spiritual powers by summoning hurricanes followed by excessive heat by stopping flow of air. On witnessing these “Rechak and Kumbhak miracles” yogis from all the 12 sects were speechless and accepted him as worship-able and was thereafter addressed as ‘Sidh Baba Mastnath ji.’ In this manner Aai sect was now known as Nath sect. After being worshiped and honoured in Pehwa, Baba Mastnath ji moved to Math Asthal Bohar that was established by Chauranginath ji in 8th century and later on destroyed by him only. He rejuvenated it, mediated there and resurrected the glory of the Math.
