Applications are invited from eligible candidates for admission to the Master of Technology (M.Tech) Programs starting in July 2018.

Categories of M.Tech Students
M.Tech (Regular) Full-Time
- These are students who work full-time for their M.Tech degrees and receive assistantships from the Institute or fellowship from any other recognised funding agency
M.Tech (Sponsored) Full-Time
- A Applicant in this category is sponsored by a recognised R&D organisation, academic institution, governmental organisation or industry for doing M. Tech in the Institute on a full-time basis.
Eligibility Conditions
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering / Technology / M.Sc or equivalent professional degrees (AMIE, etc.) and having a valid GATE score. Note: All regular category Applicants (except those having B.Tech. degrees from an IIT with a minimum CPI of 8.0) must possess a valid score of Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE).
- Applicants seeking admission to M.Tech. Program of the Institute shall have to possess a minimum of 60% marks (or a CGPA of 6.5 in 10 point scale) for General/OBC categories and 55% marks (or a CGPA of 6.0 in 10 point scale) for SC/ST categories in the final qualifying exam.
- All selected Applicants have to produce the certificate with regard to the marks secured in the final qualifying exam by 31st Oct, 2018.

M.Tech in Mechatronics
- B.Tech/B.E degree in Mechanical/Production /Aerospace/ Electrical/ Electronics & Communication/ Instrumentation Engineering or M.Sc in Electronics and Instrumentation and valid GATE score in ME, PI, AE, EE, EC, IN, PH, XE.
M.Tech in Mathematics & Computing
- M.Sc in Mathematics or B.Tech/B.E degree in Electrical/ Electronic/ Computer Science/ Mechanical/ Civil/ IT/ Aerospace/ Instrumentation Engineering or Equivalent and a valid GATE score in MA, EE, EC,CS, ME, CE, AE, IN.
M.Tech in Nano-science & Technology
- M.Sc/Equivalent in (Nanoscience, Chemistry (Pure/ Applied), Physics, Applied Physics/ Solid State Physics/ Engineering Physics/ Biophysics/ Polymer Science/ Material Science] or B.Tech / Equivalent degree in [Engineering Physics/ Polymer Engineering/ Materials & Metallurgical /Materials /Mechanical /Electronics/Electrical Engineering] and a valid GATE score in CY, PH, MT, ME, EC, EE, XE (with Material Science or Polymer Science & Engineering)
M.Tech. in Computer Science & Eng
- B.Tech/B.E degree in Computer Science/Information Technology and a valid GATE score in CS.
M.Tech in Communication System Engg
- B.Tech/B.E degree in Electrical Engineering/Electronics & Communication and a valid GATE score in EC.
M.Tech in Mechanical Engg
- B.Tech/B.E in Aerospace, Aeronautical, Automobile, Production, Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering and a valid GATE score in AE, ME and PI.
M.Tech in Civil & Infrastructure Engg
- B.Tech/B.E degree or equivalent in Civil, Infrastructure, Construction, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering with valid GATE score in CE, ME, EE.
M.Tech. in Materials Science & Engg
- B.Tech/B.E degree in Materials, Metallurgical & Materials, Chemical, Ceramics, Polymer/Rubber, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics or M.Sc/Equivalent in Physics, Applied Physics, Chemistry, Applied Chemistry and valid GATE score in paper MT, CH, ME, EE, EC, XE (with Materials Science or Polymer Science and Engineering or Solid Mechanics or Thermodynamics).
Reservation of Seats
- Reservation of Seats for SC, ST, OBC (Non-creamy layer) and PD categories: As per Govt. of India rules.
- OBC (including OBC Minorities) (Non-creamy layer) Applicants will have to enclose certificate and self-declaration statement as per prescribed format in annexure I, II and III (as applicable) available with the Application form.
Selection Procedure
- Selection is based on performance in GATE and Personal Interview of shortlisted Applicants.
- Marks obtained in GATE and in personal interview will have 70% and 30% weightage respectively.
- Personal interview will be held to test the skills in basic science, engineering, and relevant areas. Personal interviews will be conducted at IIT Patna.

- Please login and fill up all the parts of the application form. Follow the instructions given in the document “Instructions to Applicants”. At the end a final PDF will be generated. You can download it from your registered email address or from your application page.
- Application Fee of Rs.300/- (for Gen/OBC Applicants) and Rs.150/- (for ST/SC/PD/Female Applicants) must be submitted through the online module.
- A copy of payment e-receipt should be sent through the application form. Applicants are requested to use the following link to submit application fee online or through challan.
