Applications are invited from eligible candidates for admission into PhD Programs for the Semester commencing from 2018 sessions.
Applications are invited in the following disciplines:
Biology
- PhD positions are open in following areas – Biomaterials and Cellular & molecular neuroscience.
Chemistry
- PhD positions are open in following areas – Theoretical and Computational Chemistry, Molecular Modelling, Computational Biophysical Chemistry, Dye Sensitized Solar Cells, Photocatalysis.
Computer Science & Engg
- PhD positions are open in following areas- Pattern Recognition and Machine Learning, Image and Video Analysis.
Electrical Engg
- PhD positions are open in following areas – Wireless communication, Microelectronics, Power electronics and drives, Control Engineering.
Humanities & Social Sciences
PhD positions are open in following areas:
- Economics: Growth & Regional Disparity, Urbanization in India, Network Economics.
- English: Literature and Environment / Ecocriticism, American Literature, British Literature, Post-Colonial Literatures.
- Philosophy: Specialization in Philosophy (Allied areas: Psychology / Cognitive Science).
Mathematics
- PhD positions are open in following areas – Dynamical Systems with sufficient background in Analysis and Differential equations.
Mechanical Engg
- PhD positions are open in following areas- Dynamics of turbomachinery/ Rotating Machines, Flexible Robotics, Micro-Electro Mechanical Systems, Nonlinear Oscillations.
Physics
- PhD positions are open in following areas – Astrophysics, Experimental and Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics, Quantum Information and Quantum Optics, Particle Physics.
Eligibility Conditions
PhD (Engineering)
- Applicants with a Master’s degree in Engineering namely M.Tech., M.E., M.Sc (Engineering) or MS by Research with at least 60 percent marks or at least 6.5 /10 Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) or Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA).
- Applicants with a Master’s degree in Sciences with at least 70 percent marks or at least 7.0/10 CPI or CGPA with a valid GATE, CSIR, UGC or NBHM score card.
- Applicants with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with i) a B.Tech., B.E or B.Sc (Engineering) degree with at least 80 percent marks or at least 8/10 CPI or CGPA and a valid GATE score, and; ii) a B.Tech degree from any of the IITs with at least 8/10 CPI or CGPA with a valid GATE Score Card.
- Applicants with Master’s degree in Engineering from a University or an Institute abroad with at least 60 percent marks, 3.0/4 CPI or CGPA, or 8.0/10 CPI or CGPA.
PhD (Science and HSS)
- Master’s degree in Sciences with at least 60 percent marks or at least 6.5/10 CPI or CGPA with a valid GATE, CSIR, UGC score card or equivalent.
- Such students are required to have at least 60 percent marks or 6.5/10 CPI or CGPA in Bachelor’s degree.
- Applicants holding Master’s degree in Engg also are eligible to apply for PhD program in Sciences with at least 70 percent marks or 7/10 CPI or CGPA.
- Applicants holding only Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with i) a B.Tech, BE or B.Sc (Engg) degree with at least 80 percent marks or 8/10 CPI or CGPA and a valid GATE score card ii) a B.Tech degree from any of the IITs with at least 8/10 CPI or CGPA or a valid GATE score card.
- Applicants with Master’s degree in Engineering from a University or an Institute abroad with at least 60 percent marks, 3.0/4 CPI or CGPA, or 8.0/10 CPI or CGPA.
Part-Time / Sponsored Category Applicants
- Three years of relevant experience is needed for those with M.Tech degree and five years of relevant experience is needed for those with B.Tech or M.Sc degree.
- This category is only for those who are working in research labs or in similar institutions.
- Please note that no financial assistance will be provided under this category.

- Applicants are requested to send online generated summary sheet and final submitted application duly signed along with the processing fee of Rs300/- for General / OBC Applicants and Rs.150/- for SC/ST/PD Applicants in the form of demand draft (DD) drawn from a nationalized bank in favour of “Director, IIT Jodhpur” payable at Jodhpur to the following address:
