IIT Patna Invites Applications for Admission into M.Tech Program

Applications are invited from eligible candidates for admission into two year full time Master of Technology (M.Tech) program offered by School of Engineering & Technology (Department of Mechanical Engineering jointly with Department of Electrical Engineering) in Mechatronics and School of Basic Sciences (Departments of Mathematics) jointly with School of Engineering & Technology (Department of Computer Science & Engineering) in Mathematics and Computing and School of Basic Sciences (Departments of Physics jointly with Department of Chemistry) in Nanoscience and Technology for 2012-14.
Eligibility Conditions
- The program is open to candidates of all categories with bachelor's degree in Engineering / Technology / M.Sc or equivalent professional degrees (AMIE, etc.) and having a valid GATE score.
Note: All regular category candidates (except those having B.Tech. degrees from an IIT with a minimum CPI of 8.0) must possess a valid score of Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE).
- Candidates seeking admission to M.Tech program of the institute shall have to possess a minimum of 60% marks (or a CGPA of 6.5 in 10 point scale) for general/OBC categories and 55% marks (or a CGPA of 6.0 in 10 point scales) for SC/ST categories in the final qualifying examination.
- All selected candidates have to produce the certificate with regard to the marks secured in the final qualifying examination by 31st Oct, 2012

- Reservation of seats for SC, ST, OBC (including OBC Minorities) (Noncreamy layer) and PD categories: As per Govt. of India rules. OBC (including OBC Minorities) (Non-creamy layer) candidates will have to enclose certificate and self-declaration statement as per prescribed format in annexure I, II and III (as applicable) available with the application form.

- Prescribed application form can be downloaded from official website.
- Application form can also be obtained from the Assistant Registrar (Academic), Indian Institute of Technology, Patna, Patliputra Colony, Patna – 800013, Bihar, from 11th Apr, 2012 by ordinary post or in person. To receive application forms by post, send a request along with a self-addressed, stamped envelope (24cm x 15cm size). Request for form must be sent in an envelope superscribed with ‘Request for M.Tech. Application form’.
- Filled in application forms complete with copies of mark sheets/certificates and other testimonials (both sides) and a demand draft for Rs.300 for general/OBC candidates and Rs.150 for SC/ST/PD candidates drawn in any nationalized bank and payable at Patna in favor of IIT Patna should be sent to

- Those applying for more than one specialization should make separate application.
Selection Procedure
- Selection is based on performance in GATE and personal interview of short-listed candidates. Marks obtained in GATE and in personal interview will have 70% and 30% weightage respectively.
- Personal interview will be held to test the skills in basic science, engineering, and relevant areas. Personal interviews will be conducted at IIT Patna.
