Eligibility for admission

M.Sc Degree in Nursing (2 years): Candidate who has completed B.Sc (N)/B.Sc Hons/Post Basic B.Sc Nursing with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks; has undergone a full time (regular stream not distance mode) programme in B.Sc (N)/B.Sc Hons/Post Basic BSc (N) in an institution recognized by Indian Nursing council; has minimum one year of work experience from the date of registration as Nurse and Midwife after B.Sc Nursing or after or prior to Post Basic B.Sc Nursing programme as on 31st March, 2011 in any institution/hospital or as a full time Public Health Nurse; has registered with the State Nursing Council for Nursing and Midwifery/alternate course (applicable for male candidates). These male candidates will not be able to apply for admission to M.Sc (N) - Obstetrics and Gynaecological/ Community Health Nursing irrespective of their experience in the area; is medically fit

Post Basic B.Sc Nursing (2 years): Candidate who is a Diplomate in Nursing after 12 years of schooling; has registered with the State Nursing Council for Nursing and Midwifery/ alternate course (applicable to male candidates); is medically fit

Fellowships in Nursing (1 year)

Fellowship in Family Nurse Practice; Fellowship in Haematology Nursing; Fellowship in Respiratory Nursing: Candidate who has completed B.Sc Nursing/Post Basic B.Sc Nursing Programme of the Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University, Chennai or any other University accepted as equivalent there to; has registered with the State Nursing Council for Nursing and Midwifery/alternate course (applicable to male candidates); is a graduate nurse with a minimum of one year work experience as on 15th July, 2011 in any clinical area in the hospital or in the community; is medically fit

Fellowship in Family Nurse Practice: This programme is designed to prepare registered nurses for advanced nursing practice as a Family Nurse Practitioner. A Family Nurse Practitioner in collaboration with Physician provides primary health care services across the life span in community and ambulatory care settings. The programme is of one year duration and requires full time attendance

Fellowship in Haematology Nursing: This programme is directed towards the preparation of graduate nurses for advanced practice of nursing in Haematology. The programme enables nurses to analyze the physiological, psychological, socio-cultural, developmental and spiritual factors that influence individual and family health outcomes. Haematology nurse practitioner provides health care to haematology patients across the lifespan, primarily in out patient care settings, BMT unit and in the Haematology wards and co-ordinates specialized care with the assistance of haematologists. The programme is of one-year duration and requires full time attendance

Fellowship in Respiratory Nursing: This programme is directed towards the preparation of graduate nurses for advanced practice in Respiratory Nursing. The programme enables nurses to analyze the physiological, psychological socio-cultural, developmental and spiritual factors that influence the individual and family members. It also enables the students to apply nursing strategies that incorporate the educational, ethical and socio-cultural dimensions of health-illness paradigm to the delivery of health care to patients with respiratory problems. Respiratory Nurse provides health care to patients with a variety of respiratory diseases in outpatient as well as the inpatient setting as an assistant to the pulmonary physicians in doing specialized procedures such as Bronchoscopy, Thorcoscopy etc. The programme is of one year duration and requires full time attendance

Post Basic Diploma Programmes (1 year): Candidate who is a Diplomate in Nursing/B.Sc Nursing/ Post Basic B,Sc Nursing graduate; possess permanent registration certificate from the State Nursing Council for Nursing and Midwifery/alternate course (applicable to male candidates); is a staff nurse with one year work experience as on 15th July, 2011 in any clinical area in the hospital or in the community; is medically fit

Application process: Application forms for the programmes can be obtained on request to the Registrar, College of Nursing, Christian Medical College, Kagithapattadai Campus, Arcot Road, Vellore-632004, Tamil Nadu, India either by hand or by sending the prescribed fee (as mentioned below) as crossed demand draft drawn in favour of CMC Vellore association payable at State Bank of India, Vellore town branch code 1618. (No other mode of payment will be accepted). Application form for which the programme desired must be specified. Application forms can also be accessed on-line from the CMC website and submitted with the application fee and registration fee mentioned below. Those residing abroad need to pay the application fee and registration fee mentioned in US dollar (US$) or the equivalent in Indian currency.

The application fee and registration fee are not refundable. When paid by demand draft, please mention the details in the form and enclose the original demand draft (and keep a photocopy for your reference). Please keep your application number safe to access your hall ticket and the results from the website

Candidates applying for M.Sc Nursing and Fellowships in Nursing can opt only for 2 preferences and Post Diploma Nursing for 3 preferences. Candidates must mention the order of preference for admission into the course in the application form when applying for more than one preference. Candidates will not be allowed to change the choice of preference after registration

Candidates must enclose the following; demand draft for the registration fee and the application fee if applied online drawn in favour of CMC Vellore Association payable at the State Bank of India, Vellore Town, code 1618; copies of Nursing certificates-Diploma Nursing and Midwifery/alternate course (applicable to male candidates)/B.Sc Nursing/Post Basic B.Sc Nursing; registration certificates-Nursing and Midwifery/alternate course (applicable to male candidates). Registration certificate for additional qualification (for Post Basic B.Sc Nursing); experience certificates after GNM/B.Sc Nursing/Post Basic B.Sc Nursing till date; mark lists of GNM/B.Sc Nursing/Post Basic B.Sc Nursing; transcript of diploma Nursing/B.Sc Nursing/Post Basic B.Sc Nursing; certificate indicating the date of birth (if not stated in the 10th/12th marksheet)*; general education qualification certificates (10th/12th); current medical fitness certificate ;* merit certificates (If the candidate is a best outgoing student, a certificate from the institution indicating the same should be enclosed); community certificate from the govt authority*; Baptism certificate/confirmation certificate-if Christian; sponsorship obligation completion certificate (where applicable); no objection certificate from the latest employer*; certificate for serving in needy areas; three self addressed long envelopes (9”x4”) with Rs 5/- stamp affixed

Sponsorship: Sponsorship is a privilege where by weightage is given to candidates during selection. The sponsored candidates are expected to understand the spirit of service and compassion for the less fortunate, which is integral to CMC. During selection weightage is given to students sponsored by Diocese/Missionary organizations which are members of the CMC Vellore Association, and have been granted sponsorship privileges. Sponsorship application forms are available with offices of these organizations and Diocese. Sponsorship forms are not directly available to the candidate from the College of Nursing

 

Eligibility for Sponsorship

M.Sc Nursing: Candidates who served for a minimum period of 2 years in a hospital or community of a sponsoring agency after completion of the course and training period of Basic B.Sc Nursing programme

For candidates applying for M.Sc Nursing after Post Basic B.Sc Nursing, their experience in a supporting mission hospital after their Diploma Nursing will be taken into consideration. These candidates have to enclose experience certificate from mission hospitals after their Diploma Nursing and Midwifery programme along with their application for sponsorship

Post Basic B.Sc Nursing: Candidates who have served for a minimum period of 2 years in a hospital or community of a sponsoring agency after the completion of the course and training period of Diploma Nursing and Midwifery programme

Fellowship in Nursing programmes: Candidates who have served for a minimum period of 2 years in a hospital or community of a sponsoring agency after completion of the course and training period of B.Sc Nursing/ Post Basic B.Sc Nursing programme

Post Basic Diploma programmes in Nursing: Candidates who have served for a minimum period of 2 years in a hospital or community of a sponsoring agency after completion of the course and training period of Diploma Nursing and Midwifery or Basic B.Sc Nursing or Post Basic B.Sc Nursing Nurses programme

Candidates who do not meet the above criteria will be treated as open candidates even if they are sponsored by a sponsoring body. Sponsored candidates are called to serve in the hospitals or outreach medical work of their sponsoring agency for a specific period of time (not less than two years) as decided by that organization immediately after the completion of their programme. The candidate has to sign a service undertaking with the sponsoring agency at the time of sponsorship. A copy of this undertaking is to be sent to the College of Nursing along with the sponsorship form by the sponsoring agency. Sponsorship will be on the basis of the need of the sponsoring agency to have trained personnel for their mission work. The sponsoring agency has to produce an undertaking that a post will be available when the candidate completes the study programme. No fee or donation are to be paid other than the stipulated registration fee for sponsorship which should not exceed Rs 250/-

The obligation for sponsorship should only be in terms of service and not by financial compensation. Students who do not fulfill their obligation are not eligible for admission for any studies or for appointment as staff of Christian Medical College, Vellore. They will not be issued any certificates other than those statutory certificates mandated by the University and the State Nursing Council

Completed sponsorship forms are expected to reach the registrar, College of nursing, Christian Medical College, Kagithapattadai campus, Arcot Road, Vellore-632004, not later than the prescribed date mentioned in the prospectus

Selection process

M.Sc Nursing, Post Basic B.Sc, Fellowship in Nursing and Post Basic Diploma Programmes in Nursing: Candidates who have applied for M.Sc Nursing, Post Basic B.Sc Nursing, Fellowship in Nursing and Post Basic Diploma programmes in Nursing will appear for a written examination. The short listed candidates called for the medical checkup and interview after the preliminary selection will be published in the website and intimated individually by post before the 20th December, 2010

Hall ticket: The hall ticket will be available at the Christian Medical College website http://home.cmcvellore.ac.in/admissions/admin.htm after 10th November, 2010. Please access the website and print it out. Check for accuracy of detail. Those applying on paper may also access this using their application and registration numbers. Only one hall ticket will be generated per candidate even if the candidate is registered for more than one course. Hall ticket will be posted to all the candidates. In case of non-receipt of the hall ticket one week prior to the date of the written test, candidates may contact the office of the registrar by post, fax, email or the telephone. Please keep your application and registration numbers handy

Entrance examination: All eligible candidates are required to undertake a written examination (multiple choice questions) on 27th November, 2010

The examination will be conducted in the following cities; Bangalore, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, Pudhucherry, Trivandrum and Vellore

The candidates are expected to report ½ an hour before the examination at the centre with the hall ticket. The medium of the examination will be English

Medical check up and interview: A medical check up will be held the day prior to the interview. All candidates called for the interviews are advised to bring their chest X-ray of size 15”x12” taken within the last 3 months bearing the date and name of the candidate

Candidates attending the interview are expected to produce all the relevant certificates in original as mentioned in the prospectus. Without the original certificates candidates are not permitted to attend the interview. Admission to any particular programme is based on the performance in the entrance examination and interview. Weightage is given for sponsorship having served in the rural and needy areas and for their previous academic performance. 50% of the seats in each speciality in M.Sc Nursing are reserved for sponsored candidates. 28 seats are reserved for sponsored candidates out of the 30 seats in Post Basic B.Sc Nursing programme. The waiting list is based on ranking in the final selection

All selected candidates who wish to accept the seat offered must give in their acceptance in writing within the prescribed dates as mentioned in the prospectus. On failing to do so, the seat will be offered to the next candidate in the waiting list as per the admission policy

Registration: All selected candidates are expected to produce all the documents in original for registration and join the programme on the stipulated dates. Failing to do so the candidate will have to forfeit the seat

Admission is subject to approval from the University and other such bodies as applicable

Facilities available

Scholarship: The College of Nursing Alumni scholarship, the TNAI scholarship and the Elizabeth Gillespie scholarship* (Rs 5,000/- per year) are available for the postgraduate and post basic nursing students. The members of the TNAI/Alumni of the College of Nursing can apply to the concerned bodies after selection to the programme

(*Only for post basic B.Sc and M.Sc in Community Health Nursing speciality)

Procedure for obtaining eligibility certificate: Candidates are expected to obtain an eligibility certificate on remitting a prescribed fee from the Tamilnadu Dr MGR Medical University, Chennai. The candidate has to apply to the registrar, the Tamilnadu Dr MGR Medical University, No 69, Anna Salai, Guindy, Chennai-600032 on the prescribed application form (costing Rs 50/-) which is available at the University Registrar’s address as well as at website http://tnmmu.ac.in

All candidates need to produce the transfer certificate, migration certificate (other than Tamil Nadu state degree for M.Sc (N) and other than Tamil Nadu H.Sc. for Post Basic B.Sc (Nursing) and Tamilnadu Nursing Council Registration certificate in original at the time of applying for the eligibility certificate

The application for eligibility certificate is normally entertained by the academic officer on or after 1st April of the academic year except for foreign nationals who could apply earlier

All applications submitted to the University in person will be cleared off within 3 days from the date of receipt of the application form

The stipulated fee for issue of eligibility certificate is; recognition of examinations conducted by Universities/boards within India-M.Sc Nursing-Rs 1500/-; Post Basic B.Sc Nursing-Rs 1000/-; recognition of examinations conducted by Universities/Boards outside India-Rs 6000/-

An account payee demand draft for the above mentioned fee may be drawn in favour of the registrar, the Tamilnadu Dr MGR Medical university, Chennai and enclose along with the application form

The eligibility certificate is mandatory at the time of registration to the programme, failing which the candidate has to forfeit his/her seat
