CDS Exam 2024 - Combined Defense Services Exam acronym CDSE is conducted by UPSC on a national basis to fill nearly 345 vacancies of Defense Officers (Army Officer, Air Force Officer, Navy Officer) in all three branches i.e., Army, Air Force, and Navy of Indian Armed forces. Due to its National level approach, this test is taken by most of the defense services aspirants on a priority basis. The brack of vacancies will be as follows:

  • Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala, Kerala
  • Indian Military Academy, Dehradun 142th
  • Officers Training Academy, Chennai 105th SSC (Men)

CDS Exam 2024 Eligibility

Educational Qualification

  • For opting Army, the candidate must be a graduate of any stream. OR
  • For the Air Force or Navy, the candidate must be a graduate with Maths, Physics, and Chemistry as the Main subjects at this level. OR
  • Those who are taking final years of graduation in the present academic year can also appear for the entrance test provisionally subject to their fulfilling the conditions later.
  • Aspiring candidates should have done Graduation in any discipline from a recognized university or equivalent.

CDS Exam 2024 Syllabus

CDS Exam consists of three papers of 2 hours duration each consisting of 100 questions from the following given subjects.

English - Code No. 1

General Knowledge - Code No. 2

  • The English part of the question paper will consist of questions aimed at testing the candidate's understanding of English and workmanlike use of words.
  • The General Knowledge part of the paper includes knowledge of current events and of such matters of everyday observation and experience in their scientific aspects as may be expected of an educated person who has not made a special study of any scientific subject.
  • The paper will also include questions on the History of India and the Geography of nature which candidates should be able to answer without special study.

Mathematics - Code No. 3

Arithmetic
Algebra
  • Number System-Natural numbers, Integers, Rational, and Real numbers. Fundamental operations addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, Square roots, and Decimal fractions.
  • Unitary method-time and distance, time and work, percentages, applications to simple and compound interest, profit and loss, ratio and proportion, variation.
  • Elementary Number Theory- Division algorithm. Prime and composite numbers. Tests of divisibility by 2,3,4,5,9 and 11. Multiples and factors. Factorization Theorem. H.C.F. and L.C.M. Euclidean algorithm, Logarithms to base 10, laws of logarithms, use of logarithmic tables.
  • Basic Operations, simple factors, Remainder Theorem, H.C.F., L.C.M.
  • Theory of polynomials, solutions of quadratic equations, and the relation between its roots and coefficients (Only real roots to be considered).
  • Simultaneous linear equations in two unknowns-analytical and graphical solutions.
  • Simultaneous linear equations in two variables and their solutions. Practical problems leading to two simultaneous linear equations or inequations in two variables or quadratic equations in one variable & their solutions.
  • Set language and set notation, Rational expressions, conditional identities, Laws of indices.
Trigonometry
Geometry
  • Sinx, cosx, Tanx for 0 < x < 90
  • Simple trigonometric identities.
  • Use of trigonometric tables.
  • Simple cases of heights and distances.

Lines and angles, Plane and plane figures, Theorems on

  • (i) Properties of angles at a point
  • (ii) Parallel lines,
  • (iii) Sides and angles of a triangle,
  • (iv) Congruency of triangles,
  • (v) Similar triangles,
  • (vi) Concurrence of medians and altitudes,
  • (vii) Properties of angles, sides, and diagonals of a parallelogram, rectangle, and square
  • (viii) Circles and their properties including tangents and normals,
  • (ix) Loci.
Mensuration
Statistics
  • Areas of squares, rectangles, parallelograms, triangles, and circles. Areas of figures can be split up into these figures (Field Book), Surface area and volume of cuboids, lateral surface and volume of right circular cones and cylinders, and surface area, and volume of spheres.
  • Collection & tabulation of statistical data, Graphical representation frequency polygons, histograms, bar charts, pie charts, etc. Measures of central tendency.

Important: For those candidates who opt only for the Officers Training Academy have to take two papers. ie English and General Knowledge

 

CDS Exam 2024 Pattern

CDS Exam consists of three parts which are as follows:

For Admission to Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, and Air Force Academy-

Maximum Marks allotted to get admission to the following services are as follows:

Note: The level of all three papers is equivalent to the Metric Standard. There is a negative marking (0.33) in the CDS exam for each wrong response.

Important:-There is a break of 1 Hr each in all the parts of the paper. All three papers are held on the same day. Candidates can opt for Question Papers either in English or in Hindi. This option should be exercised while filling in the Application Form. It cannot be changed later.

 

CDS Exam 2024 Dates

CDS Exam is held twice a year normally in the month of April and September.

 

CDS Exam 2024 Fees

  • Generally, the fee for the exam is Rs. 200/-
  • All Female candidates and candidates belonging to SC / ST are not required to pay any fee.

However, no fee exemption is, however, available to OBC candidates and they are required to pay the full prescribed fee.

 

Fee: Candidates (excepting female/SC/ST candidates who are exempted from payment of fee) are required to pay a fee of Rs 200/- (Rs two hundred only) either by depositing the money in any branch of SBI by cash, or by using net banking facility of SBI, State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur/State Bank of Hyderabad/State Bank of Mysore/State Bank of Patiala/State Bank of Travancore or by using Visa/Master Credit/Debit Card
