CMI Entrance Exam 2023 Syllabus

The entrance exam will consist of questions from the relevant qualifying subjects.

B.Sc (Hons.) Mathematics and Computer Science and B.Sc (Hons.) Mathematics and Physics

  • Algebra: Arithmetic and geometric progressions, arithmetic mean, geometric mean, harmonic mean and related inequalities, polynomial equations, roots of polynomials, matrices, determinants, linear equations, solvability of equations, binomial theorem, and multinomial theorem, permutations and combinations, mathematical induction. Prime numbers and divisibility, GCD, LCM, modular arithmetic logarithms, probability.
  • Geometry: Vectors, triangles, two-dimensional geometry of Conics - straight lines, parabola, hyperbola, ellipses and circles, tangents, measurement of area and volume, coordinate geometry.
  • Trigonometry: addition, subtraction formulas, double-angle formulas.
  • Calculus: Limits, continuity, derivatives, integrals, indefinite and definite integrals, maxima and minima of functions in a single variable, series and sequences, convergence criterion. Complex numbers, roots of unity.

 

M.Sc Computer Science

  • Discrete Mathematics: Sets and relations, elementary counting techniques, pigeon hole principle, partial orders,
  • Elementary Probability Theory
  • Automata Theory: Regular expressions, non-deterministic and deterministic finite automata, subset construction, regular languages, nonregularity (pumping lemma), context-free grammars, basic ideas about computable and noncomputable functions.
  • Algorithms: O notation, recurrence relations, the time complexity of algorithms, sorting and searching (bubble sort, quick sort, merge sort, heap sort).
    Data structures Lists, queues, stacks, binary search trees, heaps.
  • Graphs: Basic definitions, trees, bipartite graphs, matchings in bipartite graphs, breadth-first search, depth-first search, minimum spanning trees, shortest paths.
  • Algorithmic Techniques: Dynamic programming, divide and conquer, greedy.

  • Calculus and Real Analysis:

  • Programming: Ability to read and interpret algorithms written in simple pseudocode

 

CMI Entrance Exam 2023 Pattern

  • The common CMI 2021 exam pattern is that all the question papers will carry two parts - Part A and Part B.
  • The exam will consist of multiple-choice type of questions from the qualifying subjects and relevant general aptitude subjects.
  • The exam pattern of CMI 2021 differs as per the courses, therefore, candidates are suggested the CMI exam pattern given in the table below.
