NID functions as an autonomous body under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India. NID has been recognized as a Science and Industrial Research Organization by the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India. The NID Entrance Exam - DAT or NEED- score remains valid for one year and it is used only at the time of admission.

Educational Qualification |
Prospective students securing at least 50% marks in aggregate at 10+2 level or its equivalent in any stream from a recognized board can apply for the examination. The candidates who are studying in the qualifying class can also apply for the exam, but at the time of admission, they must provide eligibility proof. |
Age Limits |
The upper age limit for an aspiring candidate is 20 years (relaxable by 3 years for reserved category candidates) as of 1st June 2024. |

Aspiring candidates who should have a Bachelor's Degree in the related area are eligible to apply for the M.Des program. Candidates who are studying in the qualifying class can also apply for the exam, but at the time of admission, they must provide eligibility proof. |

The upper age limit for an aspiring candidate is 30 years (relaxable by 3 years for reserved category candidates) as of 1st July 2024. |

NID Entrance Exam consists of three aptitude tests of 60 marks each made to evaluates the candidate’s aptitude and creativity along with the innovative and critical analyzing power of the applicant.

NID Entrance Exam is normally held in the month of December/January.
